Why do people remember him as an all time great when everyone and their mama knows he cheated in that first Alexis Arguello fight. His trainer Panama Lewis was a known cheater and he put some type of illegal substance in Pryor's water for that fight.

Your argument is valid in a very small way.

He was great but for a very small time. The Cervantes he beat was a shell of his former self and he did cheat against Arguello so I think it’s fair to say he’s not a “legend” but he was a damn good fighter with a nice legacy.

That fight with Arguello mix or not he proved a lot. Alexis was on the downside, and I would rate Alexis over Pryor but Pryor is hard to rate. He really did have a short career compared to Hearns, who won his first title the same day Pryor won his , and yet Hearns won titles even in the 1990s..

Arguello was damaged goods from the beating he took in the first fight.

That's a bold opinion, especially calling him a cheating. I can't disagree. The black bottle incident is pretty damn incriminating, combined with the fact that Panama Lewis was as loathsome as they come. Its kind of silly that people buy the excuse that it was some tonic for Aaron's diarehea. Come on people, use your head

While its true that Pryor beat Arguello in the rematch fair and square, that doesn't really prove that there was nothing in the black bottle. It doesn't have any bearing on the black bottle controversy, imo. It just means Aaron was decisively better than Arguello on THAT night. The fact remains that the 1st fight was gruelling and closely fought, and it was also marred by some substantial controversy of a possible banned substance.

I am not sure how bold that is. The said the one I mix right in the open. If that is the case he did cheat.

People bring up the rematch but I could easily argue Arguello was pretty much a shell of his former self from the beating he took in that last round in the first fight. It was said that Arguello even collapsed on his way back to the dressing room.

the way Arguello went down was tough. He just sort of wilted and went back to the ropes and sunk down with the accumulation.

Lots of boxers cheat and get away with it.

I don't think Pryor was a legend or a true great anyway. His resume is nothing special at all. He was a good fighter, very good, fighting in a weak division against no one special.
