It'll only take a well placed left hook to put Korobov away. Prior to that he might make Jermall look foolish. But that left hook is gonna land, maybe even the first round. Doesn't take away from the fact Jermall is just feasting on tomato cans and has yet to really step up. All that talk and he was gonna fight Monroe. Expect another tomato can after this, after claiming he can beat Canelo, Jacobs, and GGG of course.
I don't see Charlo just blowing through Korobov. Yes, Korobov was stopped against Lee but has anyone seen that KO? That same shot has KO'd many Lee victims but Korobov was still upright and it was a ref stoppage. Korobov has a ton of amateur experience beating Usyk, GGG, and Dereynchecnko (spelling, I know). Korobov also has Uzcategui on his resume, better than anything Charlo has done so far in his pro career. I think Charlo is in for at least a competitive fight, which should mean getting +900 is a no-brainer.
Lees right hook is deadly and korobov took about 10-15 unanswered punches afterwards, never went down. he wont go down easy!
Korobov has had 1 fight in 25 months, turns 36 in 3 weeks and I am of the opinion he already peaked in the amateurs, has been fighting scrubs and low level opposition since the Andy Lee fight all of which have been 6 and 8 rounders, hasn't scored a win inside the distance since April 2014, and he couldn't even stop the tomato can Jonathan Batista he fought in a 6 rounder in his last fight despite the fact that they were 2-11 in their last 13 and had been stopped in 9 of those 11 loses (including 2 via DQ) and all within 5 rounds. And Korobov was preparing to fight a journeyman in an 8 rounder on this card who was 1-4 in their last 5 fights. Batista was stopped by Khytrov TKO1, Vitalii Kopylenko TKO3, Radzhab Butaev KO4, Willie Nelson KO2, Kanat Islam KO1, John Thompson KO3, Brian Castano DQ5, Eddie Gomez RTD5, Yordenis Ugas TKO2, Meiirim Nursultanov RTD2, and Frank Galarza DQ5. And then immediately after he lost to Korobov he went 2-2, again both wins against tomato cans and both losses via stoppage (inside 2 rounds). Korobov didn't look good to me at all vs Batista. Maybe we might see a Korobov who was close to the one we saw 4 years ago against Uzecatgui, Lee, and Derek Edwards but I remain sceptical even though I hope we do. This content is protected
Both of the Charlos have looked exciting and able the last coupla' years but it's another episode of "let me call out everybody but don't fight them". Korobov is a step up? I guess? That said, it could be a good show. Best of luck to both guys. War Charlo!
I think it's still an interesting litmus test for Charlo on short notice. Korobov is a heavy underdog for those reasons, but Khurtsidze - Douglas was viewed the same way except by the die hards who knew the replacement was more dangerous than the original. The biggest issue I have with MK is I think he's a bit of a frontrunner. His stamina was never great, so Charlo could exploit that if the fight gets into the deep waters.
Charlo won't get stopped and won't lose a decision (see the Trout scorecards) so it doesnt even matter if you think Korobov has a chance its a waste of a bet.
I am excited for this fight - have been waiting for Korobov to get a chance for a while - it’s been sad to see him left on the shelf as a “high risk low reward” guy. Once upon a tome his ceiling was very high - now, we just don’t know cos of the lack of action. If Jermell and Jermall are comparable skill wise, this could be a very tough fight for Jermall. Jermell was being comfortably outboxed by Jackson, and Jermall struggled with Trout. Korobov at his best is light years above those guys in terms of pure boxing skill. He is physically strong and has good power and solid chin. If Korobov is anything like he was, it’s tough for Charlo. Can’t see Korobov being stopped easily, and he’s very tough to outbox. He has been desperate for a big fight so will be incredibly motivated. It’s his last chance realistically. Robbery incoming? Possibly.
Korobov's career has been as pissed away as much as any boxing talent of the past 25 years, and beyond. An exceptional case of a exceptional talent not translating to much of a meaningful pro career. A real shame. Just think of all the juicy match ups that could of been made. It's not like Pirog who was out injured...
