Judging by his display v GGG is Canelo now better than anyone Floyd faced in his prime?

The question was about Floyd in his prime.

 

Pacquiao, Marquez, Mosley, and Corrales were P4P top 3, top 3, top 5, and top 10 when he fought them. That is pretty damn great. Marquez of course was debuting two divisions up.

A small percentage had Cotto back in at the rear when they fought. Judah had cracked The Ring's #10 spot at the end of 2005 before getting bounced by Baldomir, the fight before he fought Floyd so a near miss.

Genaro is a great of his division and was undefeated at the weight entering. While it was his last ever fight and he was nowhere near prime, he was 32, not some 38 or 40.

Castillo is probably the best LW of the 2000-09 decade. For reference, he ended up cracking The Ring's top 10 P4P for both 2005 and '06.

I feel Genaro, Castillo, and Corrales do get stated but are still sold short when discussing Floyd especially in this context.

Canelo is a gem to his legacy, that's for sure. I knew it was at the time but it has aged pretty supremely well for his legacy, as many of his "PPV king welterweight days" opponents famously entered the fight on a big high but didn't sustain a fraction of those same heights after losing to Floyd (from Mosley [entered #3 WW] to Ortiz [entered #3 WW] to Guerrero [entered #5-6-ish WW]).

 

Outside of Beating Corrales FlIVds resume is filled with old men and blown up lightweights. Canelo resume is clearly better. Not only is his better but there are a lot of fighters with better resumes. Andre Wards resume shts all over FlIVds.

 

I wasn't speculating. What I said is reality. Mosley was #3 P4P by the Ring. Immediate retrospect told a wildly different tale but it was what it was. Pac had regained up to top 3 in almost every P4P list when the fight with Floyd happened; with KTFO6 three years in the mirror.

Canelo was a beast in his early days, just like he is now.. I remember his fight against Ryan Rhodes where he was just pressure after pressure, and Rhodes was a good fighter..

He is exactly the same now just more accurate. Still lost twice to GGG and would also lose to Floyd. But he still has some class style and fun to watch.

 

Canelo was green if you actually think he gave 100% you’re stupid. Floyd could have ran which he didn’t the fight shouldn’t have been a MD. Go back and rewatch ******

 

it is possible he can be better than Floyd soon enough. You can be better than someone who beats you. Hearns is great,and Barkley beat him twice.

 

Good point. No Barkley never was better than Hearns, but he had a style which worked well with Hearns style of going for broke later on. Herans was reckless later in his career. But after Barkley 1, he got better defensively.
