If you don't already share that perception, there's little point in trying to persuade each other. It's like asking how Mozart's compositions are more balanced and musically agile that von Dittersdorf's. It just seems obvious on its face -or doesn't.

(Not that Carnera is a pugilistic counterpart of Mozart, of course.)

    Baer's reach is 81", Wilder's is 83".

He killed the iron-chinned Earnie Schaaf in the ring. Went on to knock out (an older) jack sharkey. Proceeded to beat Tommy Loughran, a great contender of the era, in a title defense. Carnera publicly challenged Baer to a fight

Cant tell if you're being sarcastic, but thats kind of my point, Joshua is like a Carnera 2.0

I disagree with your analogy. It's actually pretty easy to explain the specific ways in which you think one boxer is more skilled than another, and it's often quite possible that one reasonable observer may have missed things that seem obvious to another. But it's your right to refuse to clarify or substantiate your opinion, of course.

Yeah, I was kind of being sarcastic but fair enough. I just think that Joshua is so clearly better at so many aspects of boxing that it obscures the significance of their similarities.

You can do the same in music, but in any case this has been done before and I don't feel like going off hunting down video timestamps to illustrate my case. The asymmetry between anticipated time spent and anticipated payoff is just too great.

Can you elaborate? What would you have me look at? How wild Wilder gets when he has someone hurt?

I guess the real question is--what kind of superior skills do you think Carnera possessed? Wilder imo has much better defensive skills and reflexes, a better jab, better punching mechanics than Carnera, for starters.

The recent revisionism in this forum where a small group of posters have been imagining that Carnera had an excellent jab, great distance control and ring IQ, etc. is bunk.

It certainly doesn't have to be excellent to excel Wilder's. In broad answer to your broad question, I frankly think Carnera did just about everything better than Wilder other than throw hard right hands.

Height factors in huge though. Baer's head would be lined up perfectly with Wilder's shoulder where as Baer would be punching up. Functionally Wilder would have a noticeably longer reach much more than the 2 inches the stat sheet indicates.

And Baer would still beat the tar out of him, assuming he feels like training

Reading today that Carnera's 40th opponent ,Ricardo Bertazzolo refused to take a dive despite being guaranteed a percentage of the gate on top of his purse that would have netted him$10,000 with Carnera getting $6000.
Bertazzolo's manager Aldo Linz solved the problem by slitting Bertazzolo's eyebrow with a razor blade in the interval between the 2nd and 3rds then smearing Vaseline on it,shortly after the start of the round the blood began to flow and the fight was stopped.

I've also heard bs about Harry Haft taking a dive against Marciano. Im sure they needed to pay off a 16-7 bum. Where did you hear this?

Then again, if its true, it still doesnt take away carnera's other feats, such as beating Loughran, Schaaf, Sharkey, etc. (Not to mention a ton of giants, including a... 6'10" 281lbs Victorio Campolo... Lol must've reincarnated as Nikolai Valuev)

I wonder why they didnt pay off, say, Larry Gains instead...
