Yes, Whyte has a very decent left hook, but when you're forced to identify a single punch as a standout quality - and some vague accolade about working the body which I feel is more to do with his alias than anything supported by his fighting style (his bodywork is decent not stellar) - you're kinda calling him limited too...

Who would you be rooting for - AJ or Whyte - in the rematch? And why?

 

This thread is about Whyte, it singles him out.

The division is poor, I agree but that doesn't mean what Whyte does is high quality, in an objective sense. It isn't, although I admire his dedication and desire to improve on a very basic skill-set.

I think people are in for a shock when he rematches AJ. They have both improved since 2015 - in some ways Whyte more than Joshua - but AJ has matured and won't recklessly engage like he did in the first fight. I feel the gulf in class will be more clearly evident after April 2019...

Actually Joshua said throughout the fight that it seemed Whyte was holding back as though he's going to unload on Chisora late ,that's what happened. Listening to Joshua his commentary was very accurate.

 

He needs to improve his right hand accuracy, he pushes it , he doesn't snap it , it also loops because he doesn't position his back foot right so he's stuck in mud and doesn't torque with the punch.

Beyond better right hand he would be wise to get Nigel Benn who helped him out with Parker back in his camp. He was able to really show Whyt E how to put punches together with a better jab, keep Tibbs as head trainer and do a duo of them in your corner.

He won't stand much chance against Joshua without throwing volume power punches because that tip tap punching with power shots in between will not work , he needs to do a full month of direct power punching without injuring himself and then take 2 months adjusting to mixing power and boxing drills. Joshua is going for destruction when they meet if he can't slow Joshua down early it ain't going past 7 rounds should Joshua come out swinging from round 1 onward.

Whyte has a good style to potentially make Joshua make mistakes bc he's unpredictable but the punches have to be more direct up top, and consistent. If all his punches were like his body punching he would be more formidable...if he can throw more top class left hooks sooner that would help to. Whyte seems to be slow starter with getting his accuracy better as the fight goes.

 

The BODYSNATCHER deserves a shot more than any other heavyweight and that is a FACT.

His chances of success are irrelevant. He’s earned his shot. Give the man his dues.

It's hard finding actual current or former fighters who know the actual boxing and follow it. Lewis, Fury, Wilder , Ortiz and Parker are shockingly bad with giving insight of match ups. Listening to all the former champions and contenders break down the Wilder vs Fury fight was pretty bad to, I think Cooney had the best insight although everyone picked Wilder.

This goes for trainers to. Barry's way out there when not discussing Parker and you have guys like Breland calling Fury no technical aspects to him and Manny Robbles still hasn't developed defense for Breazeale and had to scream get your hands up from ringside ? I think I picked the wrong occupation these guys would make me look like a genius with the idiocy they come up with.

The best fighters usually has the best boxing brains behind them. That's why Joshua is highly successful and has at least a top 3 trainer for his style.

i think Whyte has something good going for him and a competent trainers invaluable . When current fighters know what they're talking about its a good indication they will be at the top. I actually think Joshua has a ring IQ level that gets unnoticed. It's just going to add making it more difficult to defeat him. He's probably the smartest boxer out of anyone including Fury , Whyte is maybe the 5th smartest ( his emotions are hurting him in spots ) after Ortiz and Povetkin but he's still developing.

 

He absolutely deserves his shot. That’s for sure.

But AJ dismantles him again and Wilder beats him up.

 

I honestly dont think he deserve a title shot because his best win is against who? Chisora? Really? The same chisora that fury easily beat twice? Same chisora that an old 45 years old vitali easily beat? Same chisora that was ko by his promoter David haye? Imo if whyte really want to prove he deserve a shot? How about fight fury next? Hearns has said he would love to make fury vs whyte next so that joshua vs wilder can happen next for the undisputed heavyweight championship. I rather see whyte really earn the shot if he can beat a real top fighter which is fury.

 

Outstanding post mate, i think its over looked that he didnt need to fight parker or chisora the second time.
I loved the way he walked out the ring leaving joshua on the apron, after saying wont wait around.
