If Jack was bobbing and weaving his way through the division in the late 1940 s rather than 19 teen's ? He'd no doubt run in to the ageing Louis ,but also Charles ,Walcott ,Moore and ..a young Rocky fella . Thought s on how a young Dempsey does among the late 40s /early 50s crowd ?
He'd knock out Charles and Walcott with some difficulty imo, and he'd blast through the contenders like Nino Valdes and Rex Layne. Might have problems with Roland LaStarza but nothing a little dodging won't fix. (And dear God don't put Vingo and him in the same ring) If he meets the Louis that fought Walcott, it's probably a 50/50 fight, but I'd lean towards Dempsey. Louis would probably win the rematch. If Louis tries to fight Dempsey post retirement, that'll be a death sentence. I couldn't predict a fight between young Marciano and Young Dempsey, but if, say, Champion Dempsey met 1952 Marciano, I'd predict Marciano knocks him out mid rounds, after Dempsey knocks him down early and Marciano rallies and knocks Dempsey down, and proceeds to out-bulldoze him in a Dempsey-Firpo paced fight
Dempsey never really put together a string of elite victories the likes of beating a Charles, Walcott, Louis and Marciano. I say he wins most but loses at least one. I have always picked a prime Marciano over Dempsey but a pre-prime Marciano would probably lose. He was good enough to be just about anybody on a given night but he never demonstrated the ability to put together a consistent string of those given nights over elite heavies.
I think he cuts through them all without too much trouble. Louis, great as he was, aged like milk and was no match for Dempsey by that point. I'll bet Charles and Walcott give him tough moments but still get knocked out.
Young fire breathing dempsey with great legs and reflexs pretty much takes them all apart.....perhaps
He would put the era to the sword. He might pick up a loss against Walcott, or Charles, or even Maxim on the way up, but it would quickly become apparent who the standout contender was. He would eventually face off against the ageing champion, whose reflexes would no longer be up to the task, and it would end like the Louis Marciano fight. Of course getting the title would be as bad for Dempsey, as it was in his own era, and that would throw out other possibilities!
This is how I see it More or less .A young Dempsey . Beats an old Louis ,just as Rocky did. Charles and Dempsey would be a great entertaining match but Jack stops him late .Walcott ,tricky as hell, gives him all kinds of trouble before Dempsey catches him . He and a young Marciano ?A fight for the ages .
Dempsey wins some, loses some against that crop- he would be a top guy though. I'd pick Marciano, Charles, Walcott and Louis over him, but wouldn't be surprised if Dempsey won any one of those.
Honestly Ezzard Charles might last the longest if he moves, It's not really fair to match Dempsey with an aging Louis cause he'd kill him. Marciano? Jack was a beast and he'd attack the rock with both hands dropping him. I see the ref stopping it ,Dempsey by TKO
I have no doubt the Manassa Mauler could probably beat all the opponents mentioned but could he sustain the intensity to beat them with all the distractions outside the ring ?
Tough call as much as I like Louis he is the easiest pick for me to say Dempsey wins at this meeting between them at this stage of their careers. Walcott is tricky and Could bang but he had too many losses at all stages of his career and was too chinny in my opinion not to get knocked out. Charles was a tough man and a great boxer he might beat Dempsey imo. Marciano would be war but I can see Marciano getting busted up and stopped.
“Aged like milk” you’re the second poster tonight I saw use that term is this hot analogy this week lol.
