A fit 53 year old formally World Class boxer like McCall could beat up the vast majority of humans on the planet. And almost everyone here. Barring likely a few large & very skilled fighters. If he can fight, why draw a barrier & say you would not watch 53 year olds? Would you not watch woman sports because they are not as good as men in absolute terms? Never watch school sports, even college athletes, because they generally pale in comparison to the pros? Why even EVER watch the lighter weight classes, because in absolute terms, however skilled, the bigger giuys would overwhelmingly dispatch them? Let's be rational here. And fuhgettibout the ageism.
To expand upon my post two above-really another point-why does boxrec list him as suspended? Did they confuse things with que pasa over two decades ago, or did I miss something? Also he is erroneously lsted as having one KO loss, when he famouly has never been off his feet in 33 years, 74 fights. 434 rounds and counting. Plus 300 + rounds with Tyson. I am not particularly worried about Mc Call having a few more fights against journeymen. Mc Call was never KOD , never took a lot of punishment and is in shape for his fights.
The person who shouldn't be licensed is the 26-year-old who lost to McCall who has only won three of the 20 professional fights he's engaged in.
The last thing boxing need is another Greg Page tragedy. Boxing has had bad publicity recently with the death of a 13 yr old boy in Muay Thai fight and 49 yr old Italian man in boxing match Bangkok. Boxing has safety regulations for a reason.
I understand your concern juppity, but for boxing as a whole it does not matter. Society has become immune to this sort of thing. It only affects those directly involved with the tragedy in one way or the other. I have been in the crowd for two terrible near death accidents in fights (Watson and McClellan) and there was a real introspection of the sport post these incidents, with some good coming out of them, but that does not happen anymore. Nowadays we say it is terrible, click on a sad face and bemoan why Tyson Fury was robbed whilst Adonis Stevenson fights for his life... It sucks when you look at it in black and white, but I would not go back, as the sport has never been in a better place (worldwide).
Of course it's irrelevant to the discussion or, at least, it was until you started bandying the term 'r3tarded' around to insult those who don't have the same view as you. It doesn't matter. You weren't to know and it's not like you'll ever meet him. I'm sure that, if you did, you'd have pause for thought before using the term just because someone has a different opinion on a boxing matter to your own.
Indeed. Mc Call has the chin to withstand Briggs his power. If Olliver lets his hands go, he could outwork Briggs
How was either argument nonsense? You said Moorer beat an ATG in Holyfield. Moorer beat a man who had performed so poorly, he was told by the hospital he had suffered heart failure and immediately retired. I personally don't think for a minute that was the case but Evander was so bad that night, the claims of heart failure were given wide credence at the time. Now, if you still think that beating a man believed to be suffering heart failure counts as a win over an ATG, I would be curious to know why you don't think Berbick's win over Ali does too. As for saying you 'don't like boxing because you don't want to watch 53yr old McCall fight', that's not what I said. I said if you think a 53 year old boxing is the 'opposite of decency' then maybe boxing is not for you. Let's take age out of it for a moment. The reason you don't want to watch McCall, if I have read you correctly, is not so much because he's 53 but because he won't be very good, albeit on account of being 53yrs old. To which I pointed out that the vast majority of boxers are not particularly good, certainly no better than a 53yr old McCall but their practising the sport, as long as they are evenly matched, is hardly 'the opposite of decency' or shouldn't be considered as such by fans of the sport. The vast majority of fights are fought between men at that level. Call it crap. Call it inferior. Call it poor standard. They're perfectly valid reasons for not wanting to watch it. But be careful saying it is not decent. There are a lot of people who would say that two men, of any age or ability, hitting each other is 'the opposite of decency' in the first place. Us fans of the sport have to counter that argument, not support it.
Oliver McCall is still fighting? Well I guess Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder will try to fight him since they both love fighting old men.
