Do you consider Canelo to be a Legit Super Middleweight World Champion?

He has a legitimate belt, won in a legitimate fight against a legitimate title holder.

Was Rocky Fielding any good? No. He's British level, which is to say an awfully long way from world level, and got a title by way of the political machinations of his promoter.

More importantly, does Canelo's capture of this title mean anything for the super middleweight division? No, it does not. It's a sideshow, high profile but ultimately without merit. The only thing it means to the other titlists in the division is that a cash cow has come into their purview.

 

This is what I do not understand. There are so many belts already and they complicated it with this superchamp nonsense. I think it would be so much easier. One champion each division. Fights would make more sense. Even back in the Hearn and Duran days where it was WBA And WBC,, why have two champs. Then the IBF came I think in 1984 in response to Larry Holmes.. The WBO in 1988 with Hearns as the first champ at 168 and then a few years after that many titles started to be added in the 1990s like WBU and IBO. What a mess. I know the deal. With sanctioning fees, who is going to stop if they get money. It is a shame. It is like the NBA basketball having another organization where Durant plays for that league and Lebron for another.

 

I don`t know what regular WBA champ means but he could have beaten most 168 champs from the past judging by the power he has at that weight, need to see him v Smith first that`s s I feel Canelo`s shorts arms are the only advantage former 168 champs would have had over him aside from Calzaghe and Ward.

 

Callum Smith is the WBA champ. Canelo basically won a belt they invented to get more fees from their #1 contender

What is British level? For me Fielding is only good enough to win the British title or slightly higher, I think that`s what you mean.

Alphabet titles are the way of the boxing world, they have grown in number from the 60s to present day, so yes Canelo got another world title belt, though doubt it will be one he puts at forefront of his achievements when he reflects upon his career.

Punters keep paying to be ringside, or subscribe to PPV etc, then mickey mouse titles will continue to evolve.
