He won the The Nigerian, West African, African Boxing Union, Commonwealth, WBF Intercontinental and immediately he became British won the coveted Lonsdale belt. Unfortunately he had to give it up to fight for a final WBC World title eliminator. Unfortunately he was not able to fight for the European title held at that time by McCloskey if my memory is correct. McCloskey was another very good fighter underrated in my opinion.

 

He was a special fighter and person unfortunately the opportunity at the very highest level evaded him until he was past his best. No excuses though he wanted and we wanted the prestigious WBC title that’s the one that matters in Nigeria and Africa. He could have picked up a an alphabet trinket elsewhere but it won’t have been the same. Azumah Nelson held the WBC title.
