On the José Uzcátegui vs. Caleb Plant undercard - along with Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Giovanni Emmanuel Delgado Morales, which makes this Sunday night telecast on FS1 an early frontrunner for most bizarre card of the year. Potentially an entire bill of brutal mismatch blowouts, or long odds left-field upsets. Both men fought once in 2018, both unspectacular defeats of tomato cans, with Elbiali coming off his 2017 humbling and zero-surrendering at the hands of Jean Pascal and Green coming off a nearly five year layoff since his loss to Blake Caparello. Elbiali, who is fully prime at 28, has B+ power, a B+ chin, and straight B skills...while Green, who turns forty this coming summer, has A+ power, a D chin, and A- skills. This one is kind of interesting.
True but if he can bypass Elbiali's leaky defense early his pop could be enough to put the kid to sleep. I'd say this is 70-30, with an Elbiali KO 69% likely and Green KO 29%, with only a two percent chance of going the distance.
Remember when people gave Mikkel Kessler shit for beating up an old, shot man in Green? Kessler has been retired himself for six years now...
Green, one of those talented head cases, whose psychological makeup stops them from reaching, or performing at their maximum potential. Watching him Chin Check Curtis Stevens' boy, Codrington, and leaving him draped over the ropes never gets old.
Green's offense was really smooth when he was at his peak. He did an awesome job of rebounding from his boring loss to Edison Miranda but the loss to Andre Ward kicked off a downward slide for him. I think when he got battered by Ward he realized just how big of a gap existed between himself and the very best. After that he got blasted out by Glen Johnson and never threatened to contend for a title again. In defense of Green, he did have a really serious intestinal problem (maybe even cancer? I can't remember) halfway through his career. So that he accomplished what he did earns my respect.
I have never been impressed by Elbiali, but Allan Green can't be much more than a walking corpse at this point. Short of Green cranking out a monster left hook (which is possible), I see him getting beaten and that chin getting eventually wrecked.
