Another great video I agree on all counts including the order you post them in at the end. What would be the 6th? The Godoy rematch? The Farr fight? Pastor bouts?
Ranking them in order of how hard they would be to replicate: 1. Walcott II 2. Schmeling II 3. Baer 4. Conn I 5. Braddock Ranking them in order of historical importance: 1. Schmeling II 2. Braddock I 3. Walcott II 4. Baer 5. Conn I Honorable mentions for historical importance: The Primo Carnera fight was the breakthrough point for black money in boxing. It took more money than the Baer Braddock title fight had, and it put black fighters firmly in the picture.
Great breakdown! Totally love the defiance jimmy Braddock showed. He left it all in the ring. I have often thought that the Lou Nova fight is overlooked today. I think Louis deserves more credit for it because It was a really big deal at the time, a genuine showdown, and one of the best gates Louis had as champion. Next to nothing is remembered of it apart from the result. Must have turned out to have been an easier fight than anticipated.
I find that as you work your way down, it fills out kind of like a pyramid where you get more and more victories that are on a "similar" level, if you know what I mean.
I briefly considered the Primo performance (and the Buddy Baer efforts) but quickly dismissed them in favor of the Max fight
