Why does Eddie Hearn keep saying "he's securing his family's future"

Listen, I agree. Putting an elite level talent in with someone leagues below them can be dangerous. But the fact is, Fielding was a world champion (he held a full world title didn't he?), champions must operate at world level and in my opinion he would be brutalized in any unification and by most world level challengers. Sometimes a fighter ends up with a belt, and his reign is only going to end one way. Fielding was never going to be competitive with anyone at that level.

I do agree with your sentiment though, I just think that particular fight was just one of those things.

Whether us hard core weirdo's like it or not ~boxing has to throw a fairytale fight in now and again . It's all part of the beauty of the sport. Please please see it this way and lighten up just a touch. Its totally essential and has always been part of boxing from the start

You're wrong. He was never a world champion. Fielding holds the equivalent of the WBC Silver belt. By that logic, Whyte would be WBC champion. Also, you can't unify when you don't hold a real world belt

I get what you're saying but would see Canelo face someone who at least has some sort of a chance like Eubank Jr if canelo was to fight at Super middle

My bad, I thought he held one of the two WBA straps, which is another ridiculous story in itself

He has the 'regular' title, but it's not a WORLD title really. Manuel Charr was WBA Regular heavyweight champion not long ago, but no one saw him as a world champion. Just because Fielding is British we shouldn't claim he has a World Title when in reality he doesn't

Regular champion is the same as WBC silver though. Neither are World champions

Ah frig right enough. Smith holds the actual title doesn't he? Well either way, that particular fight still doesn't overly upset me. It's a fighter dipping toe at a new weight. What Canelo does if he remains at that weight is the important thing really

This must be why they always want to show Rochdale v Bury on FA Cup third round weekend rather than Blyth Spartans v Man Utd...

If canelo fought a fringe World level contender it'll be more like man United vs Newcastle

I would argue that they’re on a similar level. One of them just has a well known surname that’s all.

No point would be made. If Sky turned down the fight, Golden Boy as the lead promoter would have just sold it to another broadcaster.

Imagine how bad it would look if a World Title fight between a Matchroom fighter and one of the top P4P was broadcast by a rival.
