Douglass wasnt intimidated by Tyson, and Mikey could not, did not, know how to fight an opponent who did not care who Tyson was.

Others will say it was karma as Tyson was trash as a person and got what was coming....KTFO!

    Lack of head movement.

    Long count.

Tyson no longer was getting drilled like a marine by Cus d'Amato.

Worse, I think he believed that anything he hit would stay hit, no questions asked. (He was almost right on that. Almost.)

Worse still, apparently he'd been "entertaining" a squad of geishas the night before the fight instead of getting his rest.

Excuses? Yes. But they were products of Tyson's own behaviour. Douglas came in ready to walk through lava for the win and Mike simply didn't have the tools to handle it at that point.

Tyson's main trainer was fired before this fight. There were signs in the Bruno fight, that he was starting to get complacent. Looking for the one punch, not applying the fundementals enough. Then i think people didn't realize how much punishment he took at this stage of his career. His punch resistance was starting to catch up with him. Then there was those amateurs who put a condom over his eye when his face was badly swollen up.

This..The best man on the night won no question. Could Tyson have come in better, definitely, Douglas couldn't, he fought the fight of his life. I do think the death of his mother made him put his eggs in one basket and GO FOR IT, like never before or after in his career. That aside, a hungry motivated Tyson with not even Cus in his corner takes Tokyo Douglas out way before the 10th, I don't like saying it because it takes away what Douglas done that night, but its clear to me that Tyson had no focus at that point and a motivated Douglas could build on that !

There were plenty of people who were not 'scared' of Mike Tyson and still got beaten.

I'll be the one to state the obvious: Mike did not train for the Douglas fight. Everyone in his camp said that, and it was obvious in the post-Rooney fights that he wasn't training seriously anymore.

Douglas was great that night, he would have given a well prepared tyson a tough night, he had the style to beat any Mike in that form his was in, damn near looked like Ali on steroids.

Tyson wasn’t best prepared for the fight mentally, how could he have primed himself to fight the battle of his life, this was a journeyman in his mind? His fault but getting into a great mindset or shape probably wasn’t on his agenda, just another easy fight before Holyfield whilst riding high on his aura of invincibility.

Not having Rooney was major, especially in a fight where he needed proper instructions. Rooney knew mike mentally and would have kept his feet on the ground.

Tyson would never have just steamrolled that version of Douglas. He would need to be at his very best to stand a chance of winning, he wasn’t.

Tyson was 500lb 24 hours before the night and made weight by banging 20 Japs beforehand.

Douglas was also on PED's, those pills for his Bronchitis unleashed mongo mode on Tyson.

Douglas also had a 100 second count.

I'm reading Tyson's autobiography and he mentions how he hardly trained for the fight, was on a lot of drugs and spent his whole time in Tokyo screwing the maids in his hotel. Compare this to Douglas who had razor sharp focus to win the fight for his mother.

The book paints Tyson as a hardcore sex and drug addict. He had no concept of the words Self Control. He behaved worse than the most debauched rock stars from the 80s.

He achieved a lot but could have achieved much more.

Maybe, however he is damn honest about some things that most people would never admit to, really nasty things.

    So I do believe him.

Read the book, it's very entertaining.

Yep he's always honest about things that don't affect his boxing legacy.

Quotes like saying I beat this fighter while I was flat out on coke make him appear even greater.

It's easy to spot the rubbish when you know what you are looking for.

    I've read the book.
