Soooo let me get your logic right here....Marciano holds a 88 pct KO rate highest amongst HW champs..,,he knocked out his opponents quicker then everyone ever other then 5 other people (quicker being the key word) but he failed to KO a few out of 49 fights annnnnd he has no power? On a serious note how am I supposed to take your argument seriously? I mean no insult but you’re completely biased on this topic or stubborn as hell. He was once considered the most powerful puncher ever.

 

I wonder how Marciano would've done with 8oz gloves instead of those 30oz joints they wore back in the day.

Lastarza never met any punchers apart from a terminally washed up Layne and he was dropped by Lhvy journeyman Rocky Jones just prior to the Marciano fight.
Lastarza was a protected fighter. I didn't say Marciano had no power,I said he was an attrition puncher and that is precisely why he ruined so many guys,with round after round of a steady bombarment of heavy punches. Can you not even read correctly?

Gil Cardone.0-1-0 Finished with a 0-4-0 record being stopped in all his 4 fights!
Artie Donato, a safe risk he had been kod by Rockys sparring partner,had won 2 of last 6 would have 2 more and be stopped in both!
Jimmy Wells 9-15-1 finished up19-42-2 and was ko'd 23times!
Henry Haft a lhvy having his last fight won 2 of last 8 and was stopped in 3 of them.

When taking off the “patsies” you’re still left with the best KO percentage and a very quick stoppage rate. Every fighter has “patsies” when coming up seriously flawed argument

 

And calling someone an attrition puncher is saying they have no power meaning they cause their damage with an accumulation of shots. It’s not an insult to be an attrition puncher it’s just that that’s not factually correct when referring to marciano. You don’t attrition punch 43 people out conscious at an average of 4.9 rounds.

Lewis? I remember fights with Chanet, a washed up Ossie Ocassio, Levi Billups who were certainly no great Shakes at the time. well can you please use this motto on other fighters too? Every great fighter has the same kind of hand picked guys on their record until they reach world class. Rocky knocked out the best available fighters during a very good era. There is as much evidence to support this as there is for any other great champion.

why rule it out? The punchers like Ron Lyle, Mac Foster and Shavers who were all exposed by Jerry Quarry? All those guys went the distance with lesser guys if you really want to scrutinise the records to the extent you examine Marcianos guys.

I think it’s very silly to criticise the credentials of any great fighter in light of so much similar information on every other great fighter.

That’s still a lot of men. How many men did any knockout artist actually knock cold? I don’t think there has ever been a guy where everyone he beat inside the distance was out cold. It’s a very rare thing.

For example, Sonny’s Liston. He knocked Westphall out cold. Everyone else was saved before a count or was conscious during the count. Just like everyone else.

I would put Walcott ahead of Westphal for somebody knocked cold.

 

Rocky Marciano fought Ted Lowry a 160-170 pound club fighter with a record of 70-68 with 46 knockouts. Ted Lowry beat the tar out of Marciano and according to people ring side had him out on his feet in the second, third, and fourth rounds. According to people ring side Lowry had to stop throwing power punches because Rocky Marciano couldn't handle them. Yet Marciano fans think this 180 pound tomato can Rocky Marciano could beat modern sized heavyweights like Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe, David Tua, Ike Ibeabuchi, Razor Ruddock, Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko. All of these fighters and more would knock out Marciano in one round. Also if 160-170 pound fighters like Ted Lowry could beat Marciano and almost knockout him out then other middle weights like James Toney and Roy Jones would of knocked out Marciano in a few rounds too.
