The only thing Mikey sees is a big paycheck and Loma's gorgeous face in the rearview mirror. Mikey has everything to win by beating Spence and nothing to lose by losing to him. If he lost to the much smaller man in Loma, which he would, his stock would plummet.

This is a really good post though the final paragraph causes me to die a little faster each time I read it. :(

You may be right about Mikey getting stopped. He quit against Salido and he may quit against Spence. But you are wrong about Loma-Salido. Loma was not in defensive mode or getting walked down. Once Loma figured out Salido he clearly won the second half of that fight.

Mikey is a quitter though. You are right about that.

The massive size difference and the low blows were nearly not enough. (One judge did score it for Loma).

In the end, Salido was hanging on for dear life. Loma needed two or three more rounds to get him out of there.

Mickey is the underdog here, but not nearly to the degree everyone is making out.

I would give him a 45 % of beating Spence.

And if he loses to Spence, Loma is still there for a fight.

Absolutely no way Mikey drains back down to 135 to take that schooling.

I see Mikey weighing in at 144-146 and rehydrating to 150-152.

Pretty good guess. Thinking the same for his size.

What about Martinez? He dropped Garcia, Garcia managed to finish it in the 8th with a body shot. Lomachenko won every second then blasted Martinez unconscious in the 5th. Oh and that one common opponent was beaten by Martinez as well, so your silly game of A beats B because of C falls apart easily.
Also don’t forget that Salido was the same size as Garcia, and was beating him up at the end of the fight. The much smaller Lomachenko was beating up Salido at the end of the fight, despite being fouled constantly.
Then you take styles into account. Mikey is orthodox and unathletic, a good technician. Who does Lomachenko have 400 fights of experience against? He has seen and beaten hundreds of Mikey Garcia’s. To beat Lomachenko you need to be unorthodox and awkward (Pedraza) or you have to be rough and ignore the rules of boxing (Salido). Garcia poses zero problems to solve.

What are you basing that on though? Mikey might be the goods at the elite level, but he is yet to show any evidence of that. Beating up on the Easter’s of the world shows nothing, and his biggest and best win is still that Salido fight all those years ago, and even that fight showed some questions about his fighting heart.
It’s a very big step up from that to Spence. Or Lomachenko, or even Linares (a fight he turned down). Mikey is very much unproven, and Spence isn’t a guy you would want to test yourself against to find out. If Mikey just sees the final bell it’s a big win for him.

I don't know if this is the easy fight for Spence people on TV or YouTube are saying. Mikey looks motivated and confident and getting bigger shows he knows what he is up against. There were other guys Mikey could have fought which would have been better picks for him. This reminds me a little of Meldrick Taylor when he fought Terry Norris but I give Garcia a chance to make it tough. He is not going to go down easily.
