This is the very best article I've ever read. It's extremely well thought out and backed up. The thought that during Martinez's historic reign hindisght tells us there's every chance that Golovkin was the best MW on the planet. It does make you imagine how things would have gone had Golovkin got the mandatory shot ahead of Martinez. I've no doubt an alcoholic Pavlik would have lost to a young Golovkin, no doubt at all. And if we look at the slew of title fights that occured from then onwards: Martinez, Williams, Dzinziruk, Barker, Macklin, Chavez Jr, Murray, Cotto, Geale. None of those would be reasonably favoured over Golovkin and we know those that Golovkin actually did fight would have lost to him. Ironically had Golovkin got his shot sooner it might well mean that his reign ends 3 years sooner as Alvarez probably take a close decision over him but still he'd have been a champion with 9 defences and a debatable loss to Alvarez. Does this make me rate Golovkin any higher? Probably not, I already see him as a top 5 MW anyways, but I bet historically he'd have been viewed in a more favourable light. Well worth a read.
The facts say he lost. He was bullied, back off and beaten at his own game. He was left confused, swollen up and busted open after the fight. It wasn't the air that did that to his face.
Good read. GGG really has had the short end of the stick throughout his career. Boxing is a cesspit of a sport and we have been robbed of so many quality fights because of it.
You dudes are delusional. Too bad for you people like me live in the real world. He lost to Canelo and drew with him. His best win is Danny Jacobs which isn't good. So much for this biggest puncher in boxing history.
You have to be beyond mentally ill(a trend among Golovkin supporters) to blame the sport for Golovkin's own decisions. No one forced Hopkins, Mayweather, Leonard, Morales, Barrera, Pacquiao, De La Hoya, Chavez Sr. and other great fighters to move up in weight and pursuit bigger riskier and more dangerous fights. They were all free to do whatever they and their teams decided to do. Golovkin decided to stay at Middleweight and devour hopeless bums in hopes of creating as many highlight reel KO videos(a classic yet easy, thanks to social media, tactic to sucker in more clueless fans) as possible. That was his decision. He kept barking and waiting for a free payday till he finally got it and lost. Now it's either retirement or more bums(his current decision).
The facts say he won. He landed more punches than in the first fight. He landed better punches than in the first fight. He had Canelo staggered twice. He landed in combination on Canelo and had Canelo swatting air many times. Golovkin won bigger than in the first fight and was robbed.
i get your point totally but most of those if not all were all were allowed to become the man at their weight first or atleast well known. GGG wasn't really imo, he was always on the outside looking in. The situation in Germany was a joke. When fighters have backing and alot of money behind them it's hard for those backers to stick them in with somebody who is just smashing people. He was a typical high risk low reward guy. It wasnt until well into his career, some would say after his peak, that he got the exposure. I dont see how moving up in weight would have made a difference for him.

If you don't think Canelo has judges who are pushed to favor him, then you are clearly deluded and i really hope you don't have the same lack of common sense in your "real world".
