There are some fighters that are consistently under rated when it comes to their power on this forum. Two that I see this most often attributed to are Marvin Hagler and Joe Frazier. Both were murderous punchers .. Frazier was a small man fighting mostly bigger men and dominated most with his power .. Hagler was flat out a destructive puncher at middleweight. He crushed people .. no one flattens everyone every time but both these guys were big hitters that many here seem to categorize as above average at best .. I disagree.
Hagler was NOT a murderous puncher. Far from it. Even he would be insulted being called that. He was a boxer-puncher with a little above ave power. FRAZIER WAS MURDEROUS
I don't see either as, "murderous punchers",very good punchers, but not murderous. For me Frazier's great asset as a puncher was his ability to" fire and reload", instantly. Hagler was very accurate with his big shots, but not a pure puncher like Ketchel,Steele Hostak,Robinson.etc imo.
Hagler was a clinical, heavy-handed puncher. Sharp, accurate, hard, destructive by volume, but not consistently concussive. I always felt that Frazier carried cannons that he could unleash at any moment.
Everyone thinks of Hagler as the guy from the Hearns fight. But he almost never fought that way. He was a very cerebral fighter. When I first started watching tapes of him I was actually disappointed. I was expecting him to fight like Evander Holyfield.
Hagler didn`t stop as many of his world title challengers early like some bigger punchers down the years.
