He showed nothing new and just started with low blows and winging punches. I don't think it was a very good advertisement for himself. Clearly he doesn't have a boxing brain, and either he can't or won't learn, or Barry has nothing to teach him. He won't get better and will be exposed time and time again.
I thought Parker did very well against AJ and prior to the head clash, was boxing well against Whyte. However, so long as he is with Kevin, he will continue to fail at the top level, as Barry is not utilising his best assets. Someone like Roach, Sanchez or Fury would make a great HW of Parker.
For Parker's sake I hope it's Browne. It's a name win but also an easy win for him. Big confidence booster. After that, he can take on a legit contender and even if he loses, he could still come back from it.
I personally believe Parker now gets a lot of undeserved abuse, I find it surprsing that he has been completely written off by some people. Parker was the WBO Heavyweight World Champion, not a bad achievement at his age. He lost a decision to Joshua in a unification fight, he was the first fighter to take AJ the distance as a pro, look at the list of others that couldn't, It was not a devastating or career ending result all things considered. What was disappointing was dropping a decision to Whyte, a decision that was somewhat controversial because of the "headbutt knockdown" and Parker was probably 30 seconds too late in that last round, Whyte was out on his feet. And Parker wasn't good that night, he was coming off a decision loss to AJ, confidence might have been a problem and apparently he had changed some things after the Joshua defeat. And let's not forget Parker was dropped by the same left hand that laid out Browne and Chisora, he got up and nearly stopped Whyte, Parker isn't brittle or chinny. Parker is 26 years old, quite young for a heavyweight, I hope he has realised he has gained valuable experience in those two defeats and it's all about how he processes and uses those experiences and takes it forward. Personally I believe (like many others) a change of trainer is necessary for Parker to improve and become a better and more rounded fighter and he also may just need a freshen up, a different voice in that corner, some new ideas. I hope he has a few "easy" fights, there is no real rush right now, AJ, Whyte, Wilder and Fury all look tied up for the next year so at his age I'd be advising him to take steady steps up again, work on improving himself as a fighter in those fights, not just swinging like a lunatic and blasting overmatched opponents out. Browne is a good fight for him or maybe somebody like Duhaupas, then after that if Chisora still fights on then that's a decent fight for him or maybe Hammer then it's going to have to be top 12 fighters, whoever is available and willing.. maybe Povetkin or Ortiz. Then see what the landscape is like after that and where he is ranked and what he has to do to get himself in to a position to challenge whoever are or is the champion.
He lacks heart, something that cannot be thought. He is not a warrior inside the ring. Maybe there are some nice paydays ahead of him but really not much else.
Cant argue with this. When he comes against the genuine elite, its that edge and nastiness/killer instinct which causes him to come up short. This cannot be taught. Many have said his set up is too secure and he needs a new trainer, but not sure that would really make him get to the next level.
Poor officials against Joshua and Whyte didnt help him. Woudn't have thought he would fight Chisora next, he just turned down the Usyk fight so he isnt looking at anything too risky.
Browne first - maybe Chisora after - or even Whyte rematch.... Don't think he will ever leave Kevin Barry
I think if he never leaves Barry we can forget Parker ever fulfilling his potential. Can you imagine Parker if he knew how to throw a straight right and knew how to counter punch? Parker has a ton of natural ability but he doesn't seem to have the ruthlessness to make the tough decisions to get to the top.
Jennings is perfect fight to me. Winnable fight and would get tons of eyeballs on ESPN. He wins he could become the new HW on ESPN/Top Rank.
