Come on then what did Louis do with it against Schmeling?

Agreed. Unfortunately, there's at least one poster, who thinks that a knee-wobble in one moment of one round (in a fight Louis actually went on to win) trumps all other available evidence that Louis had a solid enough chin.

I think after taking dozens of big punches off Schmeling, before succumbing; then going on to an unbeaten run of over 30 bouts, which includes winning the world title and defending it 25 times, qualifies as doing something with that Schmeling (I) experience.

It's a fairly straightforward process to come to that reasonable conclusion, I'd say.

Was it fine enough to take shots from AJ or Wilder, not at all IMO.

Did he have the legs to evade their shots, highly unlikely.

Would he get off first and get them out of there before they got to him, possible but still very unlikely.

So the whole fight Liston didnt land anything big? So Cooper is a better boxer than Liston? Ali couldn't have developed that drastically in just EIGHT MONTHS. You never specified that the reason Ali didnt go down against Liston was because liston didnt land a specific type of punch (left hook, which isn't even true). If Ali really was glass jawed and a "weakling" then it wouldnt matter what type of punch Liston landed if he was a harder puncher than cooper and banks and more skilled than them.

You keep trying to save face. Do you want me to pull up all the idiotic statements youve made so far? You literally claimed the reason banks and cooper could drop Ali in 62 and 63 was because Ali was a "weakling" and still growing. Who in the history of humanity goes from being frail to fully developed athletically in 8 months??? Name some boxers please, id love to hear this.

Liston was definitely a better puncher and boxer than the men who floored Ali in 62 & 63 and Ali beat him the very next year in 64. You dont go from being glass jawed to iron chinned and full developed in 8 months. Your skill level and ability to evade punches wont increase by an incredibly huge amount either.

Based on your responses it's obvious youve either never boxed before or didnt train long enough to grasp very basic concepts. Everyone else in the thread gets it but instead of admitting youre wrong youve decided to use insults and dig your own grave.

    Go on, keep embarrassing yourself.

You cant have it both ways.

There is No way louis had 25 title defenses in the heavyweight division and never got stopped if he had a "glass jaw" without having amazing defense. Doesnt matter if you want to claim his era wasnt that strong compared to others, it's literally impossible. He would have gotten caught with something big at some point.

People seem to have this idea that your chin can either be glass or granite with nothing in between. You dont even need to get in the ring and actually box to know that this is nonsense, its obvious just by watching boxing that there are many grades of chins.

You've been harping on about Conn. He stopped Conn. Louis was pre peak against Schmeling and did get revenge albeit against an aging Schmeling.

It was you who stated "You still don't get it, Clay was developing still as an adult when he was dropped by Cooper. HW's tend to take a while to develop you know or has that gone straight over your head?"

You had no idea Louis was just 8 months older than Ali. Doesn't he get the chance to develop as an adult?

No, Liston didn't land a shot as hard as Cooper landed on Clay. Are you stating he did? If so show me the punch.

And yes Ali was still developing physically when he fought Banks, only a moron would deny this. The Banks bout was in 1962 so let's try and deal with facts here not what's in that dense head of yours.

Speaking of fighting, I've knocked bigger out than you to get to a fight.

Name some boxers who were weak and frail in one year and fully developed and iron jawed the next year. Do it or dont ever again respond to me with your nonsense, I will not ask again.

So Ali was fully developed when he fought Banks in 62 yeah which was your original point?

Do you want me to come slap that stupidity out of you?

Youre using a straw man. I NEVER said Ali was "fully developed" in 62.

YOU claimed he was a weakling, glass jawed and still growing in 62 and 63 when he fought Cooper and that was the reason he got dropped by them.

So if he fought liston in 64 and didnt get dropped, then you have to conclude either

    A) cooper and banks hit harder than liston

    Or

    B) cooper and banks were better boxers than Liston and had better timing.

    Or both.

Take your pick. Because there is no way in hell Ali was fully developed and iron jawed 8 months after the cooper fight in 63 when he fought Liston in 64. Unless youd like to provide an example of a boxer being fully developed in just 8 months? Im still waiting.

This thread has become hard to watch.

A bit like the one sided battering Briggs received against Vitali.

Louis was no angel in the ring. As he was fading out he landed a mean low blow on Max Schmeling in their first fight. If a fighter lands a foul under desepreiate circumstances you have to wonder if the foul was intentional or not. He also gave Schmeling a mean kidney shot in the rematch.

Max Baer didn't land much on Louis. It was mostly a one-way fight, and Baer, if memory serves, had to be pushed out of his dressing room.

The question to me is not only would Wlad, Lewis, and Joshua outbox Louis. They would, its could Louis take their power shots which were far more accurate and set up over the likes of Max Baer, who had a pretty lame jab, and swinging Tony Galento. Louis being handicapped in height and reach is problematic, especially since his footwork wasn't very fast or good and the modern skilled giants had better footwork in comparison to Galento and Baer.

Joe Louis has a puncher's chance for sure, but I don't think his defense or chin is good enough outside of his puncher's chance.

    1) You brought up Banks as an example of Clay being glass chinned not me you cretin.

    2) I stated he was still maturing at that point, he was less than 200lb.

    3) I'll say it again, yes I do think Ali was still physically maturing in the first Cooper bout but that's not the point. Liston never caught Ali like Cooper did so how the fcuk can we make a comparison you imbecile?

    3) You are a sandwich short of a picnic.
