Say Moorer moved up to heavyweight in 1960. How does he do and how far does he make it?

He has tough fights with Patterson, Johansson, and Williams, possibly alternating wins and losses with all three -perhaps even beating them all handily- but very likely gets brutally knocked out by Liston.

Surprises are always possible, but if a time machine made this speculation testable I'd feel pretty safe that nothing too wildly different from this would happen.

Paterson was a lot better than Moorer and quicker.

Liston would have destroyed him and he might stil have eventually come across Ali and would have been countered to death.

Patterson is better than Moorer. But MM would be a top contender in any era. Beating Holyfield is no joke.

He would do very well, but would not get past the very best.

He needed a bit of luck to be champion in his own era, and he probably doesn't get it in others!

I'm not sure. You'd favour him to get atleast one in a trilogy against Ingo.

Holy was off colour in their first fight and Moorer wasn`t that quick in that fight either, I don`t think Moorer would have been a top contender in the early 70`s.

The prime Moorer who beat Holy for the title would weigh 214 lbs, the same as Liston, and at 6' 2-1/2", be a little bit taller.

Agreed..talent, speed and power to be competitive not the consistent mentality to gut it out against the top fighters

Depends on his dedication, which he lacked at points. He could easily beat Patterson... or get beat by him. He had a higher ceiling, tho. Liston is a bridge too far. In the end, he would be a top 6 contender.

I tend think guys who were champions and top contenders would find a way to do it in most eras tbh

In the 60's, Clay/Ali, Frazier, Patterson, Liston, Terrell, Chuvalo, Bonavena, Machen, Quarry, Johansson, and Folley would have all beaten Moorer....MM would have had well deserved but hard fought victories over Mildenberger, Wiliiams, London and Cooper.
In the 70's, Norton, Ali, Frazier, Young, Lyle, Foreman(of course), Shavers, Ellis, 70's Bonavena and Quarry would all have been too much for Moorer....but Mike would have chalked up victories over an older, nearly end of the road Chuvalo, Bugner, Wepner, and a few of the other lower tier guys like Roman and Evangelista.

He'd be in a few entertaining fight s but he never gets to be champ. Young Ali stops him in 10 ,Liston bust's him up in 8.He may or may not beat Patterson but suchlike as Cooper,Ingo ,London all get KO'd .
