Do some fans feel Holyfield could have beaten a prime Foreman?

Foreman takes him out.

 

Foreman threw more power punches than Bowe who stopped Holy once and George had a wicked body attack also.

 

Young was far more cagey than Holy, he often got caught.

 

I'm a fan of Holyfield but, when it comes to fantasy match-ups on these boards, he does tend to become all things to meet any circumstances.

Holyfield is the better boxer, he is faster, has better stamina, and better skills. Foreman had either bad stamina or bad pacing, but regardless he got sloppier and weaker as a fight progressed. I would take Holyfield to stop Foreman anytime after the 4th round. People combine old Foreman with his better pacing, better defense and better ring smarts with the Foreman who was faster in the 70s. The combined Foreman never existed.

Holyfield was a complete fighter who would be only slightly smaller than the 70s Foreman who was 6-3, 217 when he beat Frazier. Holyfield was a sharp, quick, accurate puncher and should be able to hit Foreman early in the fight and it should get easier as the rounds progress. I wouldn't expect Foreman to make it past 6 or 7 rounds.

I’d pick Holyfield. The man was a winner he’s not just going to fight Foremans fight and 70s Foreman was very one dimensional. Holyfield probably goes down at some point but he wins.

 

I think this is a good analysis and one that I agree with.

 

If women had chosen to eat Holyfield's children, figuratively speaking, he might have been better off financially.

 

Holyfield was a very well rounded boxer. He probably could meet most circumstances. I feel that he would have been better if he'd been just a little less macho and headstrong though.

 

I wouldn't dispute that Holyfield was a versatile all-rounder, but he could be both out-boxed and overpowered. He was a better brawler than boxer, in my opinion and, whichever way he decided to play it, he'd neither be winning a slugfest nor controlling a tactical battle with a Prime Foreman.

 

I don't think he'd win a slugfest. I think he might win a tactical battle. It'd be good to see, anyway.

 

Prime Foreman would flog him. To be fair, Holyfield would have his moments, but they would be few and far in between and he'd eventually succumb to Foreman's immense power.

Holyfield had a top chin, far better stamina, much better hand speed, defense, the ability to counter. Size wise they would be close to even.

I think Foreman would gas a bit and lose either a decision or get stopped late.
