Could any other lightweight fighter match Duran by moving all the way to 160 and win a world title?

I don`t think Mayweather could have beat the now at 160, I feel Canelo did far better v GGG than Floyd would of and Duran did better v Hagler than Floyd would of.

Ray was never a proper lightweight, his body was naturally taller and bigger than Duran`s and he had the reach for middle, he also never won a lightweight title and he wouldn`t have been able to.

And Floyd never had to deal with the reach of Hagler who had a long reach even for a middle.

I feel Duran had more troulble with movers as he rose in weight because of the reach diffeence it made it easier for bums like Laing to stick and move out of range, even when standing in front of Duran Laing was always out of Duran`s range and had speed, I can`t think of a lightweight that could have done that to Roberto, even Buchanah who Duran said was his overall best opponent and certainly far better than Laing.

Someone said on this thread Ray Leonard also started at lightweight, Robi v Leonard at lightweight? I feel a thread coming on! Only joking!

That is true Buchanan was better than Laing. Although not better than Benitez or Hearns. Duran was great, in range he was great. I would have loved Arguello Duran, or even as someone told me Cervantes vs. Duran. Duran missed some good fights at 140, I suppose Arguello was not at 140 in 1979 or 1980 since he fought Mancini I think in October 1981. If I am not mistaken Mancini/Arguello was the same day as Hagler/Hamsho 1

Georges Carpemtier and Len Harvey both fought at flyweight when they were very young. I'm not sure it's really right to call either a lightweight though.

I would have labelled it "natural lightweight" or dictated they had to have been champ at the weight.

Well, Duran didn't beat Hagler so that's kind of a moot point. But whether Floyd could step up against a fully-fledged middleweight titlist (and without invoking weight stipulations) and win is debatable. He didn't risk it against Golovkin when he had the opportunity. But Canelo is still there and there's a lot of money in a rematch against a guy he's already beaten so who knows... maybe he'll take that risk.

Maybe, who knows. They are totally different fighters. I don't know if the 37-year-old version of Duran could've defeated the version of Canelo who Floyd fought. Duran was barely getting by then. He nearly lost to no-name Jeff Lanas before fighting Barkley, who he barely defeated as well, even though any round Duran was remotely competitive in against Lanas and Barkley was given to Duran.

Canelo likely beats that version of Duran handily.

    Who knows. Styles make fights.

He wasn't a great middleweight, but I wouldn't completely rule out De La Hoya beating Barkley. I think he'd lose to Hagler worse than he did to Hopkins though.

    O
Mayweather is way past his best. He'd lose and it'd be meaningless

Probably he would lose, yeah - if he lost it would be meaningless, but if he won at 41 it'd be more impressive than Duran beating Barkley.

Duran also said Buchanan had the best jab he ever faced.

Floyd said in an interview the reason he couldn`t have beat GGG is because he cannot compete well at 160.
