Was boxing promoter Don King really as unscrupulous as he was portrayed in the film Rocky V?

I thought "Aging well is one of the critical parameters in evaluating criminal activity", completely concurs with what you were advocating. Sorry, I misinterpreted your theory.

You can see the letterman episode where Dave calls him a weasel for doing the same thing to Joe Frazier (vs. George Foreman).
If it was just conflict of interest accusations & he acted honorably instead of stealing a fortune from those that he made a ton & reputation off of-fuhgettibout the corruption & divided titles/buying rankings....

Don King was "generous" where it benefited him. He even withdrew money from or did not give it too charities he promoted himself as benefitting.
He never changed much from his 2 murders, beating a smaller man to death days.

Decide whether the definition sociopath or psychopath fits him better.

My apartment at the time was literally within walking distance of Ten Goose Gym and only a 10 minute drive from the Kaminisky Gym , so when I put two of my rooms up for rent two boxers just happened to be the first ones that contacted me about renting one of the rooms. Before I could rent the other room a former roommate called and asked if his younger brother, who just turned pro at the time could stay at my place until he got settled into living in Los Angeles and I reluctantly said yes. At the time I wasn't crazy about living with three pro boxers, but it all worked out and they were surprisingly easy to live with. Overall I ended up having 7 boxers as roommates during my entire time living at that apartment.

Lol! That’s a Chewase and was quite a bit different than an MMA fight. In this fight the man who is 100 pounds smaller was repeatedly kicked in the head at gun point.
I also like the fact that the fighters were apparently the gangsters not Don King one of the the largest numbers runner in Cleavland.

Let’s not let’s not trying to tell the fairytale that Don King was a guy who was convicted and served his time! It is no surprise that as a member of the mob he was able to get out after four years of a 15 year sentence.

The narrative that Don King was really being bad mouth by fighter who could not manage their own affairs is dishonest. It wasn’t merely a few were irresponsible fighters who sued him but virtually every big-name fighter he promoted or represented. Lennox Lewis, Larry Holmes and Ken Norton who were considered to be ficscally responsible also sued Don King.

Let us not miss the larger point, not only were the ratings inflated, and records fraudulent but it was also very apparent that the flights were fixed. It was Fight Fixing that brought that exposed King’s Tournament . The fact is that there were co-conspirators that went to jail,Don King did what he does best responsibility!

It should come as a little surprise there were not a landslide of convictions. There was no motivation for the conspiring parties to testify against each other. It is more surprisingunder the circumstances that prosecutors were able to gather any evidence at all.

It is fatuous to claim that there were no bodies and no one was hurt by Kings hijinks. Unless of course you count Boxing as a whole.

As acknowledged even by the Don King fan club here, the scandal is well remembered today. However, this is not because it is overblown but because it may be the most highly high profile example of fight fixing since Frankie Carbo and Blinky Palermo were prosecuted in 61!

The fact that Don King is the architect of the boxings fight fixing scandal alone should be enough to recognize him as boxings worst promoter! In any other sport being being associated with fixing an event earn would have earned him a permanent ban!

As pointed out by another poster, the prevailing opinion of Don King as a weasel was an open secret to extant that it was late night talk show fodder!

Not only was king the dominant promoter of the era characterized by divided titles, he is recognized as the senior partner of the WBC the organization who has who has led the way in Belt Dilution! Yes, Don King‘s puppet organization is the innovator responsible for the additions of THE SILVER BELT, THE DIAMOND BELT and of course everyone’s favorite THE ETERNAL BELT!

Let's have less of this Brexit stuff, it's getting in the way of valuable King-bashing!
