Now I do wonder about that. These are two men who might plausibly have been the hardest puncher on the planet in their respective primes. Neither of them quite translated it into wins at the very highest level. If an ATG can take punches from guys like this, and stay on their game, then a punchers chance becomes a very slim chance indeed.
This is the bottom line. It's not like he didn't give people enough chances to do it! Frankly his style made it much more likely to happen to him, than it was to happen to Lewis! I suspect that is we swap their chins over, then Louis gets a couple more losses, a Lewis loses one of both!
I didn`t think anyone really punched harder than Bruno, I just don`t think he had much more to his game really, he had a lot of power and hurt Tyson also.
Louis by a country mile. Lewis is the ONLY Champ in ANY weigh t class as far as I know who was iced twice by one shot by genuine C level fighters. Talking about chins.....a shot beyond shot Tyson impersonator took numerous flush right hands from Lewis without going to sleep. until he said F it and stayed down but never out.....the same ONE right hand send Rahman to the moon in their re match.
Indeed, it is certainly not one advocating his attitude towards the first Rahman bout and I know of no one, who champions the performance of Lewis from Rahman (I). However, I'm not denying his skills in the most basically negative way, either. My observations are mere, measured and mild criticism, chap - in contrast to the smug sneering of perennial Lewis detractors, pouring scorn on his " This content is protected " Lewis' skills were there, but he had, in my opinion, become too self-assured and foolhardy to get himself both mentally and physically prepared to draw on them, in South Africa. I've always said Lewis' biggest weakness was his complacency. Of course, an upset loss woke him up and cleared the laurel-scented mist from his head; much to the detriment of Rahman, seven months later.
Bruno was a monster puncher. In addition to many devastating he is the only man to visibly hurt McCall and seriously rock a prime Tyson. He fought and flattened much bigger guys than Baer did. Baer could surely hit but I feel he may have become slightly overrated based on actual accomplishments ..
Louis or Lewis, I don't know .. the guys that decked Lennox were so much bigger. Lewis did fight Ruddock, Tyson, Bruno, Mercer, Klitschko, Mason, Tua, Morrison .. pretty much every big hitter of the generation that would fight him and other than the two fights he came in completely overconfident and indifferent he held up .. I think both guys are under rated .. neither A material but both solid B's ..
LOL - What are you talking about? I've not disputed anything. Rather, I've provided additional context to your framing of symptoms, as causes. It's much stranger that you seem unwilling to acknowledge that it was the misguided attitudes, behaviors and decisions of Lewis, which played the larger part in defining the outcome.
