Depends who they match him up with. Top Rank had just signed Pulev, had Ruiz Jr fought him and won he would of been mandatory for Joshua. WIth PBC he could fight Breazeale and earn mandatory status if he won.

He had options with both promoters but Top Rank had shown no real interest in promoting him anymore to be honest, so a move was obviously his best option. Whether it works out for him will depend on 2 things. Firstly, PBC's intentions for him, do they see him as a possible title holder and push him on like they have done with Breazeale and currently doing with Kownacki or do they just side line him and not do much with him like with so many of his signings. Then secondly how much motivation he shows, he's only fought twice in 2 years since Parker and has lost all the momentum that close loss gave him.

he is purely padding, just as his physique suggests.

I hope Andy never faces Hunter Jr ever again for the sake of his career, he will be demolished just like he was in amateurs by Hunter. But for anything else this new deal is good turnaround for Andy.

The Ruiz Jr performance vs Parker gets too much credit in my opinion. People forget that was over 2 years ago and Parker was pretty green at that point at only 24. Parker has improved since that fight, moves better, better head movement too and style wise Ruiz Jr was all wrong for Parker and despite that Ruiz Jr still found a way to lose.

I think Ruiz Jr vs Martin or Kownacki would all be close fights. Ruiz Jr is all honestly is at this level, I'd pick plenty of heavies to beat him, he's barely scraping into the top 20 on my list.

Parker has also tanked since then. if Ruiz is even top twenty, just shows how bad the division has become.

That's what I suspect. He isn't a big name, isn't a big draw and has lost all the momentum the close fight with Parker gave him. I think PBC are signing him to pad someones record like Breazeale or Kownacki. Now if he beats them, then of course he can expect PBC to rethink their plans and maybe put some promotional clout behind him but I wouldn't favour him to beat either of them right now based on his recent performances.

Either way he now has a chance to do something which Top rank were unwilling to do with him after he showed no desire to improve his conditioning. But the danger is he gets thrown to the other PBC lions and picks up a bunch of losses.

he never has had any business being top twenty. just shows how pathetic the division stands.

True, Parker having fought at a higher level has shown he hasn't reached the potential some had hoped for him. The Parker fight for Ruiz Jr looked great at the time but considering all factors, how young Parker was, how Parker hasn't shown that he belongs at the elite level since and is not the fighter some hoped all makes that performance by Ruiz less than impressive.
