I didn’t score it quite as wide as you, but I find your card fair and easily defensible. The only difference is I scored 1-2 10-8 rounds instead of 10-9 and called 6 even where you went Boza. So I had 65-64 instead of 68-64. Enjoying your breakdown and looking forward to the rest.

Ya Keith Jackson's one sided commentary was crap. His College Football voice though one of the best ever.

I liked Jackson alot. While no boxing expert he gave it a good effort and had one of the best voices.

Come on guys! Last week we had 15 cards....so far we have 3 and 1/5 cards for Chacon vs Limon and 2 7/12 for Chacon vs Boza...these fights are worth the rewatch! Get those cards in, you won’t regret the hour spent on either fight

    Round 4
Nice mix of head and body shots by BL. Throws a ton with bad intentions with BC on ropes but BC avoids majority of flush shots. BL holds Chacon at range with his right hand extended on a number of occasions.
BC is not ever hurt and his right hand thrown as a lead is landing on occasion.
    10-9 Limon
    Round 5
More effective right hand leads from BC. Both men mixing head and body shots. BC getting closer to RL now. BCs eye (left) seems a bit damaged will see if that gets worse.
    10-10 even
    Round 6
RL seems a bit slower this round. BC mixing shots with more success and even though he is finding a home for lead right I like that he continues jabbing to come in. RL received warning from ref. RL didn’t do much this round and BC starting to close reach gap. However he doesn’t at any point seem to phase RL with his shots. BC eyes looking more swollen but maybe is my video. I am watching with no sound to score based on my opinions even if not flawless.
    10-9 Chacon

    After 6 I have it 58-56 Limon

Another blown announcing job in this one as well.. Chacon wins this with his heart and that lead right.

And I will add about the fight. Chacon fought very well against the ropes, even more so in his defense for me. He slipped a lot of punches here and I know Boza was landing a lot too. But if Boza was more accurate , he probably draws or might edge the fight.. Close rounds in this one too for me.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I started a thread a month or 2 back about best fighters or fights where a guy ya his back to the ropes. No one mentioned this fight or Chacon (including me), but I thought about that thread during this fight almost every round

Between the 7th and 8th rounds, Homansky says he will let Chacon fight on, despite telling his corner before the 7th round, he would have only one more round. Ferdie Pacheco laments the decision of Homansky stating "He gave him one more round to do what he had to do and he couldn't."

    R8: Even Round (10-10)

Steele again calls a halt in the action to have Dr. Homansky examine the cut. Chacon comes alive and throws a lot this round, although not much lands. Boza also misses a lot and he appears to be having trouble with his footing.

    R9: Boza 10-9

Between rounds 8 and 9, a plastic surgeon steps into Chacon's corner and tells him this is the last round.

Both fighters slip during this round. Boza is busier, but seems to have lost some steam on his punches. Chacon fights in spurts. Boza seems to land more.

    R10: Even round (10-10)

Dr. Homansky again checks on Chacon between rounds.. Chacon's corner says "He's not even bleeding." LOL. Homansky seems to have set a record for most times checking on a fighter without stopping a fight.

Chacon tries to box a bit. His hands are low. Boza is busy but not punching as hard as earlier in the fight. Chacon is trying to sucker Boza with right hands, but none seem to land solidly. Bobby is bleeding profusely by the end of the round.

    R11: Boza 10-9

Boza very busy. Chacon tries to sucker Boza, with hands held low. Boza gets Chacon on the ropes for most of the round, but is not too effective. He does land more than Chacon, though.

    R12: Chacon 10-8

Chacon fells Boza with a right hand. Boza rises and gallantly pity pats until the final bell.

    Final score:

    Boza 116-112

Yeah, Chacon was slipping a lot on the ropes, but unlike, say, a Benitez, he wasn't landing much countering off the ropes. Therefore in a close round, I tended to give it to Boza because he threw more and landed more.

    Chacon - Boza 2

1 10-8 (harsh on Boza as he was winning the round before he touched down with his glove)
2 10-8 (Boza should be two rounds up, instead he's 4 points down. Crazy!)
3 8-10 (Mad opening three rounds - Boza back in the fight on the cards, even though he's been in it from the first second)
    4 9-10 (very close - wild fight)
    5 9-10 (very close again - brilliant)
    6 10-10 (Chacon cut)
7 9-10 (I'm not sure how I can score this!)
8 9-10 (Boza on top now)
    9 9-10 (close again)
    10 10-9 (just phenomenal)
    11 9-10
    12 10-8

    Chacon 112-113 Boza

I've seen this fight plenty of times before - used to own it on VHS - but never scored it before. Now I know why. The action from the opening bell is so relentless that I'm glad the first three rounds featured a knock down in each as it saved me having to score them. Having said that, I felt Boza was on top early and edged the middle rounds, particularly when Chacon got cut bad.

Around the 10th, Chacon started trying to slip punches and he fought most of the fight with his back on the ropes (with mixed success). But there is no doubt the final round knockdown secured him the fight, just as it had against Limon six months earlier.

Serious question - in terms of pure action and going the full distance, is this the greatest 12 round fight ever?

I mean, Vasquez-Marquez 3 and Barrera-Morales 1 were outstanding, but this is almost on its own level in terms of sustained action.

Watch the Negrete vs Franco fight that went off in October if you haven't seen it and tell me what you think
