Best overrall Rocky Lockridge? Chavez would have been his best opponent by some length and the best defensive fighter out of the guys he mentioned also. I remeber reading an article about Molina and them mentioning his fight with Lopez saying it came after the Suarez loss and how improved Molina had become since.

He fought a degraded version of Chavez. Of course, he was past it, too.

Actually, Lockridge was past prime when Lopez beat him. Prime for prime, I would pick Lockridge over Lopez and Brian Mitchell.

But, yes prime for prime I would say Chavez was better than Lockridge and did beat him in 1986.

Something real different this time...and I expected it really...a truly honest fighter. I loved Tony Lopez....they seemed to televise all his fights on NBC...and different feel to his fights...unlike ABC Wide World of Sports...no Howie Cosell, lol. He seemed way back then an honest man & fighter. Always rooted for the man from Sacramento.
    No bullshlt to this list!!

Right you didnt so why come on here and start disputing what the man has to say instead of enjoying the interview and appreciating what the man has to say.

Tony always felt like he was going to win the Chavez fight (I am not saying he was), and he felt the fight should not have been stopped. He was irritated by the weigh in, and didn’t feel JCC made weight legitimately. Taking those 3 things into consideration it is easy to see why in his opinion Lockridge was the best he fought. Not to mention if you never saw Lopez vs Lockridge I you should check it out. It is more a reflection on how underrated and unappreciated Lockridge is and was than a negative on Chavez.

I'm glad he mentioned Tim Brooks. Tough guy and he could hit, I saw him several times. If my memory serves me, when Bollilo Gonzalez came to LA as the newest KO king from Mexico, Brooks took him the distance.

I always enjoyed watching Lopez fight. But, I remember his fight against Chavez, and it was not remotely close. Lopez would have been fortunate to win even 2 rounds. He was getting beaten up worse than I ever saw him get beaten previously.

He seems to allude to that in this article and other interviews that his plan was to box for 10 rounds and stop him in 11-12? To me not the best strategy, although I don’t think he would or could have beat Chavez anyway...but according to him it was part of his plan and that everything was lining up that way lol
