Thanks god he left TR and that monster Arum! So now he's with a good promoter! ... And he earned $25,000 in his last fight.
He was promoted fine. He stunk joints out. He didn't promote himself in any way. If you are a boring ass overly cautious counter puncher you better have a mouth or some charisma or something. He had opportunities but he wanted to get in the ring, box like an amateur, albeit a great one, and expect people to get excited about him. Maybe the Most consistently boring boxer at the elite level. On top of that, n I'm not defending arum here either, but I heard rigo was a smug ******* and difficult to work with as well.
I agree. Can't blame it on Arum. Rigo is good and was given the opportunity to fight top p4per twice in Donaire and Loma. It's more like because he's from Cuba and lack of national fan base.
Totally true. Rigo can be considered as a selfish fighter. He does not care how stinky the fight ends up as long as he gets the W, which bored most of boxing fans and in the end he can't sell tickets/ppv. Stinks back at him.
Agreed I have no love for Arum, but I doubt he can really be blamed for this. Promoting and paying Rigo more would just be throwing money away if you get nothing back from the fighter himself.
Still can't understand why he didn't work with Kyoei after the Amagasa fight. Could have ran through the Japanese guys, and been paid decently. Wake, Oguni, Iwasa, Kameda, Otake. Kubo. Venture off for Pagara, Jun, bring Cermeno over... Could have got a reputation from those guys and gone back to the US with some momentum
A real ****ing mystery in my eyes as well. I think this again hints to Rigo being hard to work with. The first 4 years of Rigo's career were perfect. But it's been a cluster**** since.
