In terms of the oldschool in-fighting, with more grappling, I'd pick Joe Gans as the best I've seen.

Personally i am partial to Armstrong who basically spent his entire boxing career inside. Duran was a bit more skilled in close and Armstrong a bit stronger.

Guys like Basilio, Walker, Fenech, Saddler, Pedroza, Moore, LaMotta, Tiger, Fighting Harada, Johnson, Marciano and many others all deserve a mention. If we had good film of Langford and Greb they'd be in the convo for sure i reckon. Even a guy like Whitaker was immensely slippery in there and Olivares was very handy to say the least.

Saddler, Starling, Griffith, Pedroza, Hopkins, Castillo, and Bowe for his height/reach come to mind too.

Duran is the most skilled infighter on film imo. But Armstrong by virtue of a pulse rate I've read as being near 40 p/m was more effective.

Defensively, Whitaker was slippery in there as mentioned, as was Wilfred Benitez!

What great fighters did he beat? Leonard outboxed him easily two times after that. The greatest fighter of all time obviously beat many great fighters right?
