I decide to invite friends over, buy wings and pizza, and order the broner Pac fight. I had low expectations. On one hand you had the chronic underachiever who was supposed to be the next generation but fails to deliver over and over. And in the other corner you have a 40 year old part time "regular" wba champion who also has time to work as a senator. Both have had it rough the last few fights, with controversial decisions and not looking as sharp as they used to be. It was a "crossroads" fight to be sure, a do or die match that would determine if they'd be take seriously as contenders on the world stage.

The fight begins and what a surprise: broner is not letting his hands go! He moves but he doesnt stick...its like getting a girl's number but never calling her. Pacquiao was equally disappointing. The crowd kept getting hyped over him landing 1 glancing blow out of 6 punches thrown. This pace kept for the majority of the rounds. Pac was winning rounds on sheer aggression and effort, it for damn sure wasnt because of good technique or landing punches. And as usual, pacquiao couldnt figure out how to cut the ring off. What is the point of bringing freddie roach back if you're going to stay the exact same fighter?

I overheard tne announcers say that broker was ranked #6 at welterweight...despite the fact that in the last 2 years he's gone 1-1-1 with his only "win" being a split decision over a c level sparring partner over 10 rounds. That is disgusting. You mean to tell me a guy who has won 1 of his last 3 fights is the 6th best welterweight on the planet...? It doesnt make sense logically or mathematically.

The fight was just rinse and repeat of broner either getting on his bike or loading up for a left hook and either missing wide or only landing with half the power as Pac bum rushed with his sloppy flurries. There were brief moments toward the end of round 7 and 9 i believe where i thought pac would get a stoppage but pacquiao once again failed to deliver on his talks of kos and feeling rejuvenated. He wouldn't press the issue and neither would broker. You had a young guy 29 years old who has become a laughing stock and has talked so much trash saying he's "doing it for his people" but is constsntly backing up and fighting scared. Then you have a washed up fighter who can barely land more than 20% of the punches he throws each round and cant cut off the ring. This wasnt manny pacquiao, this was a stunt double who looked the part. That guy is gone. He's been gone since mayweather embarrassed him and he started making excuses about his shoulder and making weird claims about god healing him by swimming and that he "knew he'd lose" but he thought he won. Then of course tbe camera pans to maywearher like we're supposed to be excited about a feather fisted 42 year old Floyd who hasnt fought a ranked opponent in 3 years coming back to fight pacquiao again? I'll pass, i can think of more exciting matchups between guys at my gym. And then broner had rbe nerve to jump on the ropes and flex for tbe camera after the final bell. The guy is a showman and an entertainer, plain and simple. He has no skill or intellect to be anything else so I guess if he wants to entertain the young hood guys who relate to him, let him make the most of his littlr niche and make money if people will oay him. No more PPVs or title fights tho, he's a bonafide C level bum now. He's the Carmelo Anthony of boxing.

Now onto the other guys. We havd Keith "sometimes" Thurman, another guy who was supposed to lead the next generation. The guy can box, slug, counter, jab, stick and move, throw combinations, etc. Yet he fought literally 1x in 2016 and 1x in 2017. He got married and milked his injury excuse and went from being a unified 2 belt holder and p4p rated guy to becoming an inactive meme. He gave up one belt and now he's finally back to fight a guy with 7 losses. I understand he needs a tune up but weve already beaten this dead horse. Until thurman fights a top 5 guy i could care less. I'm sick of his empty promises and excuses. He should have have been stripped of his other belt too, how can you hold a belt hostage and not defend it for 2 years?

Spence and crawford were supposed to fight last year but surprise surprise, they take the soft touches. Apparentlt we're supposed to be excited about mikey Garcia, a guy who has ZERO wins or ranking at 147 fighting Spence, a devastating, skilled iron chinned power puncher whose honestly a jr middle weight boiling himself down. Essentially a difference of 2-3 weight classes. I don't care WHY the porter and Crawford fights couldn't be made, this is RIDICULOUS. These guys are in their prime and belt holders but they spend all day on social media accusing each other of ducking and bragging about how much money they make. George Foreman fought Frazier, Norton and Ali in TWO YEARS. There was no back and forth negotiating/venue/purse split bickering that prevented or delayed those fights from happening!

And dont get me started on amir khan. You have a domestic rival in brook, a fight that would generate tens of millions if theyd just sign the damn papers and make it happen. If crawford beats khan, no one will give a flying rat's turd about a mega fight between khan and brook (and to be honest it's already lost a lot of it's appeal after Brooks back to back losses). Khan gas cleverly tricked his fans into thinking he wants to fight the best. Canelo was a money grab, plain and simple. Brook sacrificied his "0" to get props for taking a fight everyone knew he'd lose against golovkin. Both these guys should be banned from the sport if they lose again.

At first i thought mayweather retiring would signal the start of a golden age of welterweights but unless we see some big changes soon, this will be an embarrassing black mark on the division's history.

PAC isn’t half the fighter he used to be. It wasn’t a shock to me he didn’t look great against Broner, who basically backed up the whole time with his best Mayweather imitation.

Can’t be bothered to read all that. How about summarizing it down to a paragraph?

The fact pacquiao isnt half the fighter he used to be and yet he has 1 of the 4 belts and looked ugly against the #6 welterweight shows you how weak this era is.

Every time somebody says this is the worst era with their evidence excluding any of the top guys I have to shake my head. Two guys outside the top 5 have no bearing on how strong the era is. It's almost as stupid as claiming that the WBA regular is a real world title.

I included the top guys. Theyre obviously skilled and talented but they've done nothing. We wont know how good they are till they stop ducking and fight someone with a pulse (i.e. each other).

Pac showed how great he is by missing more than half his punches and winning a lopsided decision by default on aggression against a gunshy C level fighter who offered little resistence other than backpedaling the whole night?

By beating a fighter who everyone still holds in high regard “if he shows up” and broner probably trained the hardest for this fight. Beating a guy who was good enough to arguably beat Vargas, and take a few rounds from Garcia, arguably dominating him more than Mikey did.

All this whilst boxing is literally his part time work being a full time senator at 40.

If that’s not impressive I don’t know what is.

    Stop.

Stop this right now. NOBODY holds broner in high regard other than his imbecilic fanboys. And it doesnt matter how good broner would be if he "theoretically let his hands go"--he DIDN'T. it would be a great win if he actually did and pacquiao were able to overcome it. There was nothing great about this performance whatsoever.

Broner drew with vargas but Pac had already beaten vargas convincingly 2 years prior. If it were any other fighter most people would call this a cherry pick, let's be honest. But im cutting pacquiao some slack since he's 40 years old.

I want him to retire. If he wants to continue fighting basic 1 dimensional fighters or bums to make money and donate to his people that's fine, he should br allowed to as long as he has his health. But unless he's going to fight a top 5 welterweight he shouldn't have a belt or a high ranking. And broner should be blacklisted, he's a disgrace.

Worse of all these welterweights are all in their prime, sitting somewhere between 28 to 32 years of age. There's always something been said and done behind the scenes that is preventing these fights from happening. We as fans never get the truth, just one guy claiming that this person, or that person is ducking them.

These guys are in the hurt business, and they have pride. I truly believe that the guys that have worked their assess off all of these years to get to the position that these welterweights are at, all have the mindset that they can beat almost anyone. How could they not want to see who's the cream of the crop after all the sacrifice they made to get to there in the first place.

I mean hell, I'm no trouble maker, I'm no fighter, but if I'm at a bar and see someone my size looking for trouble, I think to myself I'm gonna lay this guy out if he's not careful. Reality may not turn out quite the same, but just like any chump that got into a fight on the street, it crosses our mind. How could these trained professionals not think the same thing.

The networks, the promoters, the contracts, the belts, the sanctioning bodies, the money and other factors are a bigger culprit in preventing the fights from happening then their fear of losing. It's all smokes and mirrors, a shitload of middlemen looking to get something out of the two fighters stepping in the ring.
