I agree, unless they start fighting each other real soon this will go down as a crap era.

Great post. There is no excuse for this. They are throwing away a potential golden era of matchups around welter. I need to think about changing my avatar. Fighting Khan ain't getting it done, Bud. At least Mikey is stepping up. Nobody else in ww that I can see...am I forgetting anybody elite tier?

No. Spence and Crawford are very good fighters.
Porter, Garcia and Pac at this age are at least solid.
Thurman was also very good, but a disapointment in the last couple of years.

I never said thet arent skilled fighters. I said the fact they won't fight each other is making this a horrible era. We have 7 active prime household PPV worthy welterweights (Thurman, Spence, Crawford, porter, khan, broner, Garcia). In the past year and a half, only 2 of them have fought each other (porter vs Garcia). That's terrible and nearly unheard of in other eras or divisions. They're spoiled--they get paid millions and hold their belts hostage with all kinds of excuses.

Nice swipe at Carmelo Anthony! Was worth reading for that alone. You make some good points though.

I usually think that a great welterweight is one who dominates that division then moves up and wins a title at middleweight. Tito Trinidad or Ray Leonard perhaps. Hearns. Napoles didn't win a middleweight title, but Griffith did. Carmen Basilio and of course Ray Robinson. Kid Gavilan was pretty good but couldn't carry his success up to middle. Mickey Walker.
