Three of them are British... At least according to Boxrec who have AJ, Wilder, Fury and Whyte ranked 1-4 with Povetkin in at 5. Good innit!
Yeah it is impressive really. Regardless of the quality of the era, we have a unique and very good boxer in Fury who is a fighting man. In AJ we have a star, a promoters dream. While holding the good looks and an adonis type body, he is also an exceptional dangerous man who may be the best all rounder of the heavys. Wilder making up the top 3, outside of that there is Whyte who has gradually climbed the ladder and earned his spot. An improving fighter who poses questions for any heavyweight in the world.
I'm guessing you'd have to go back to the 18th century and the start of boxing as we (kind of) know it today for the last time you could say the top 5 HW's were mainly British and at that point it would only be because we were the only country really doing it?
What makes it interesting is that out of the top 3 in the world either one on his day could beat any of the others just hope the fights get made
Its a bit like being the best looking bloke in a burns unit though innit? It is the worst Heavyweight division in many many years
Nah people have been saying that since the '80's..the heavyweight division at the moment is on fire. Cant see how anyone can say otherwise....and the UK is running it!!!
There’s probably been people saying that in every era to be fair. It’s only when we look back at it and think ‘wow, that was a good time’...saying that, I think Mike Tyson would have knocked all these current lads out. It’s a brilliant era in terms of competitiveness. That’s how they’re ultimately defined. Klitschko is an ATG but he never had a real dance partner in his prime to leave a great legacy.
If you mean by 'running it' that you mean 'running away from it' then i see your point... A.J will be fighting Big Baby Miller for godsake and it would/will not surprise me if Whyte fights Bellew in the summer....It is a joke
I aint sure if competitiveness is a word or not but i get your point.....but it is the total opposite of competitiveness ,nobody was fighting each other until Wilder v Fury completely shook up the division, without that fight AJ was holding all the Aces and it has rattled Hearns cage badly....So no,it is not competitive until they all actually compete with each other ,more than once....As Fury and Wilder showed if you want to fight you can fight..
Cheer up mate. The Heavyweight division is on fire at the moment...UK is on top..whats there to moan about?? Unless you an old timer who is living in "the good old days" then i dont get why you so miserable
That's not entirely true though. AJ's fight against Parker, at the time, was a unification bout and there were certainly no complaints from the majority of fans. Subsequently it was only following his defeat to Whyte where people have not started ridiculing him as a choice of not of opponent. The Povetkin fight was also an accceptable match up, top 5 ranked universally at the time. For some reason people are using hindsight to bash these match ups. Additionally we've recently had; Whyte Vs chisora I and II Whyte vs Parker H.Fury vs Pulev H.Fury vs Parker Wilder Vs Ortiz Not bad for no fights being made... I take the point that it's took the return of Tyson to put the emphasis on Hearn to get AJ in the mega fights now. They will have to deliver by the end of 2019.
