IMO Floyd 'could of, should of', won all three fights with relative ease.
His passivity cost him in all three (sadly).
    My take?
Quarry 1: Jerry put him in a 4-0 California rules hole after two rounds then...Floyd was in virtual control in rounds 3-8 completely outclassing him, IMO could have ended it a couple of times, with his skills, opting to back off instead.
Clearly had the fight won after the 8th only to go 'cigar store Indian' in the last 2 rounds letting Jerry salvage a draw.
Quarry 2: With repeated viewings this fight, in retrospect, was a 'snoozefest'. After winning the first round Floyd puts himself in a big hole in the next several rounds (both KD's from Quarry never even hurt Patterson but he copped two 2-0 California rounds at that time). Quarry tired and Patterson started piling up rounds; no real action just Floyd IMO going through the motions instead of attacking aggressively. He, quite simply, handed a draw and a win to Quarry in their two scraps.
Ellis: Again with repeated viewings I don't see this as an 'out and out' robbery. Floyd, simply, did not force the action enough. The old adage: "You've got to take the fight to the champion".
That being said Valens scored it 9-6 Ellis.
    MANY rounds were close.
I had Ellis clearly winning rounds 1,3,& 15( although Floyd was pounding Jimmy the first half of the 15th. Floyd got a bit hurt in the final half but both were in it at the bell).
I had Patterson clearly winning rounds 4,6,13,14 (look at that uppercut again...knockdown!) If not, why did Jimmy go to the ropes expecting an 8-count?
That would be a 4-3 Patterson on 'clear' rounds.
So Valen scored rounds 2,5,7,8,9,10,11,12 Six to two Jimmy?
Not to mention Jimmy was a mess at the end, broken nose, both eyes cut, bloody and closing, puffed up with Floyd unmarked.
    My $0.02

    Quarry vs Patterson II

    Round 1-
Quarry landing more clean punches, although Patterson tattooing Jerry's body and a huge right hand upstairs. Could be a draw round.
    Quarry 10-9

    Round 2-
More cautious from both. WHOA! At the end of the round, Quarry lands a solid right, backs to a corner and explodes with a combination, decking Floyd with another right!!!
    Quarry 20-17

    Round 3-
Both guys landing big upstairs and down. So close, could go either way. Patterson edged it.
    Quarry 29-27

    Round 4-
Hooo- Quarry ahead with solid body shots gets into an exchange and drops Floyd with a volley of punches, ending with a left, then a right!!! Patterson up immediately. One minute to go.
    Quarry 39-35

    Round 5-
Quarry lands a left hook to the body that clearly bothered Floyd. Floyd in more control. Floyd's round.
    Quarry 48-45

    Round 6-
Not much happening. Quarry rallies with clean, hard punches with one minute to go. That gets him the round.
    Quarry 58-54

    Round 7-
It's mentioned by Cosell that Quarry stated after the first fight that he didn't feel Patterson was a hard puncher. Floyd lands a solid right, was the constant pursuer, he wins that one.
    Quarry 67-64

    Round 8-
Floyd lands a solid right. Quarry more measured and not as active. Another good right from Floyd, and another. Floyd's round.
    Quarry 76-74

    Round 9-
Quarry moving now, neither guy throwing anything significant. Whew. Quarry round.
    Quarry 86-83

    Round 10-
Patterson lands a big right. Floyd landing quality punches here. Floyd resurgent, Quarry mainly boxing backwards, looking to counter. Floyd round.
    Quarry 95-93

    Round 11-
Quarry tired. Floyd landing punches, Jerry not. Floyd round.
    Quarry 104-103

    Round 12-
Quarry listless as he has been the last 4 rounds or so. Quarry seems discouraged. Floyd staying busy, seems like he wants it more. Floyds round.
    Quarry 113-113

    Draw!

Not mad at the official decision.

    Ellis vs Patterson

Watching the black and white version because I'm nostalgic hahaha

    Round 1-
Ellis loves to bomb with that fast 1-2. Both guys jabbing, moving. Can't identify which punch broke Ellis' nose... Ellis round due to being more aggressive and landing more. He really trusts that right hand of his.
    Ellis 10-9

    Round 2-
It must have been cold in Stockholm, because you can see their breath. Ellis' nose now bleeding from a big right landed, I guess I remembered wrong about it being in the first. Ellis clearly outjabbing Floyd. Floyd lands a good hook in an exchange. Floyd landed several clean, hard blows that win him the round.
    Ellis 19-19

    Round 3-
Ellis hurt Floyd with a right, followed by another right. Ugly infighting. Big uppercut lands on Floyd, and a left hook to the body. Ellis looks sharp.
    Ellis 29-28

    Round 4-
Patterson with the 1,1,3- jab, jab, hook while moving left. Smooth stuff. Patterson would do so much better to let his hands go more, but that's the case in many of his fights. Floyd gets the better of a sloppy exchange. Ooh!! At the 2min mark of yhe round, Floyd lands a big sharp right over the lowering left of Ellis that buckles Jimmy's legs momentarily, prompting him to hold on. Clearly hurt for a sec. He recovers well. Dang big exchange, Floyd landing several clean ones... Big round for Patterson.
    38-38

    Round 5-
Ellis got bucked in that last one. Ellis sure believes in his right, throws it like he expects a KO with every one. Ellis lands a clean right, dips, then a left. Patterson scores when he double-jabs. Don't know why he didn't catch on to that and does more of it. Patterson backing to the ropes nails Ellis with a clean right uppercut, then takes a 1-2 clean from Ellis. Overall not alot happened this stanza. Ellis landed more, cleaner.
    Ellis 48-47

    Round 6-
Ellis getting cute. Nose still bleeding, trying different tactics to frustrate Floyd, which tells me he's a bit frustrated. Laying on Floyds neck, pushing him down. Feinting. Lands the clean punches though, although there are very few. Ellis bleeding from a cut on the right eye. Oof! 25sec left and Floyd lands the punch he wanted to- a huge left which Ellis falls into the ropes, bouncing off into a volley of punchea from Patterson. Ellis fights back, but that definitely earned Floyd the round.
    57-57

    Round 7-
Cosell can be such a *****, plus inaccurate. Just throwing that out there. Ellis scoring well with jabs. Oh Floyd lands a right counter. And another. Ellis lands a decent right. Both fighting at more of a measured distance, Ellis jabbing, Patterson scores more effectively.
    66-67 Patterson

    Round 8-
Floyd lands a hard jab. Plenty of misses by both. Not much happened. If anything, Ellis landed the clean ones.
    76-76

    Round 9-
Floyd throws big but misses. Both guys bombing, missing or glancing with all, except a big Floyd right which scores among all the mess, but Ellis replies with a right uppercut. Probably Floyd's round, although hard to tell. Floyd moving away the short remainder of the round.
    85-86 Patterson.

    Round 10-
That uppercut Ellis landed may have stung Floyd more than he let on, because he's still moving away. Both boxing, jockeying for position. Whoa Patterson lands a right. Big jab from Floyd. Floyd landing short on the inside. Ellis seemed tired. Floyd.
    94-96 Patterson

    Round 11-
These commercials are so dumb... Floyd lands a right in an exchange. Ellis pursuing behind the jab. Ellis scoring with a right. Ooh a 1-2 from Ellis clean. A clean hard left hook from Floyd. Ellis with a right uppercut, Floyd counters with several quick body shots. Ellis lands more.
    104-105 Patterson

    Round 12-
Uneventful. Ellis scores with a right uppercut. Forgettable round. Both guys thinking of the championship rounds coming up and conserving a bit. Ellis round.
    114-114

    Round 13-
Cosell bordering on Ferdie Pacheco-level idiocy with his comments... Floyd scores a left hook. Another. Eliis with a right on the ear. Ellis hook. Dang Ellis with a 1-2-3, then another 3... Clinching. Patterson shoeshines him to the body and a clean hook up top. Floyd bleeds from the mouth now. Both swing big but miss mostly. Oof! Floyd with a leaping hook out of a crouch! Boom! A right immediately after! Ellis counters with a round. Floyd round.
    123-124 Patterson

    Round 14-
Ellis comes out firing. Ellis scoring. Patterson with a clean jab. Ellis a quick right high on the head. Floyd hook. Floyd shoeshines again. Ellis bleeding profusely from the nose. Oh good right from Floyd! BAM! Floyd counters an Ellis right with his own right uppercut and knocks Ellis down! Floyd falls on top of him, apologetically hugging him and helping him up... Ellis was clearly tired before those two big rights. 30sec to go. Floyd round big.
    131-134 Patterson

    Round 15-
Floyd a true champion and gentleman. Ellis looks like he got jumped in an alley. Floyd misses a right, scores a long left. Another right against the ropes.. Again scores on Ellis with a double jab. Wow a big right from Ellis has Floyd stunned! Floyd clinching, trying to survive... Ellis resurgent. 1min to go. Ellis scoring. Oof right uppercut from Ellis lands. Ellis round.

    141-143 Patterson

Tough fight with Floyd building momentum and Ellis tiring. Must have been cold. Tough way to make a living.

Don't know what that ref was seeing. Didn't call the knockdown. Prolly had money on Ellis.

Nice card and breakdown! On the cold it says 50 degrees but perhaps it was colder I don’t know. Cosell was about at his all time worst and he had a pretty low bar to begin with.

So seeing that you have a 2 point Patterson win would you call it a robbery or a close fight with a controversial decision? It seems that media cards and ringside it is split about 2/3 in Floyd’s favor.

Its a close fight, many rounds close. I rewatched two of the rounds because I thought I missed something and needed to see a clear winner.

Obviously close and competitive. Robbery is strong. Questionable is more accurate. The decision isnt outrageous, but the fact the ref didn't recognize the knockdown is.

I watched the KD in 14 a couple of times but don’t feel like I had a good view of whether it was a slip or fall or KD or whatever....maybe I need to relook at it...was it a clear KD to you? I know it was to Cosell

Yes I think it was. Floyd lands a good right which makes Ellis grab him, then as Ellis scores a glancing right hand, Patterson counters perfectly with that right uppercut. Ellis falls with his arm behind his body, awkwardly. That hurt him. He was hurt and tired before that uppercut.

On further inspection, it appears that the right uppercut lands to the right side of Ellis' face, which supports my long time assertion that those punches almost always do more damage. Meaning right hands to the right side of the head, left hands to the left side of the head. Many many examples of that.

Appreciate the thoughts I will have to check out rd 14 again maybe the color version gives a better angle? I thought it was but I could tell for certain?

After you said that, I checked the color version. I watched the black and white to score. Dont think either is better than the other, but the black and white one i could replay to the moment just before better than the color version for some reason.

I gave round 4 to Patterson and scored round 10 even. So I guess that makes it Patterson 7-5 for me.

And I've got a lot of fights to catch up on! (I've been binging on some podcasts and tv series lately, which has cut into my boxing time)

Excellent FOTW choices, by the way!
