So, Charles Martin isn't as bad as was advertised?

Is Martin still going?

If he worked on a few things he’d been a pain in the arse for anyone.

His movement and speed let’s him down

 

He got caught cold by a monstrous puncher in a big fight atmosphere he was not ready for. The AJ fight made him look a lot worse than whst he probably is, a tricky low level top ten guy.

 

Nah he's nothing special, neither is Kownacki. Chisora beats both.

 

I'd always thought Washington was overrated and on a similar level to Martin, but clearly that's not the case. He's even worse than Martin, at least Martin after the Kownacki fight showed a half decent chin and decent stamina, Washington doesn't even have that.

It's clear Washington has followed the long tradition of American football players who've turned into terrible heavyweights. He has no power, no chin, his footwork is as bad as Wilder's, his stamina is awful and he chose a terrible game plan in trying to trade with Kownacki. He has an OK jab though, but he has no power behind it and doesn't have the footwork to maintain distance after throwing it.

I think the Wilder fight flattered Washington. Wilder had just returned from an injury plus Washington was a late replacement so Wilder had not specifically trained for Washington and let's be honest it doesn't take much to out box Wilder.

The Joshua fight for Martin also may not reflect his true ability. I still think he's awful but he has a better chin than the Joshua fight showed. Maybe he froze on the big stage or maybe Joshua just hits that hard.

 

Martin is nowhere near as bad as people make it. Not saying he’s great and would beat any top 15 but he got to where he did for a reason. He didn’t have any answers for AJ, same way he wouldn’t have any for fury and wilder but he certainly asked a guy like kownacki some questions.

 

Style makes fights.

You can't compare Kownacki vs. Washington and Kownacki vs. Martin at all.

Martin is a heavy handed southpaw who was at least trying to move if Kownacki was coming in. He also has a decent inside game considering his height and limited boxing skills in general.

Washington was trying to exchange and trade with Kownacki at the inside. Mixed up with "I stand in front of him and waiting for a miracle to happen" this is a KTFO to happen.

And yeah...Charles Martin is definitely much better than Gerald Washington.

Washington is overrated due to winning a couple of rounds vs. Wilder in a hyper cautious fight. Wilder was figuring out how to fight a guy who is nearly as tall as him as he only fought bums before and Washington was really cautious and jabbing for his life. He fought a different fight than yesterday. Obviously Kownacki is a bit tougher to handle than Wilder.

 

Lets be real, martin could have gotten up in the joshua fight but quit because he wanted to enjoy the money, if he had balls maybe joshua would have actually had to work that night.

 

Some would say that based on achievement Charles Martin is better than Luis Ortiz and is on a parallel with Deontay Wilder.

 

He definitely quit rather than being unable to get up. He was dropped easily got up then was dropped again the exact same way and clearly thought stuff this, he knew he didn't have a hope and folded mentally after the 2nd KD.

Had he got up he probably would of been dropped again the same way, he simply didn't have an answer for the right hand counter of Joshua. Don't think Joshua would of needed to put in much more work to finish him. Joshua had found a flaw and exploited it.

 

I'm pretty sure Spzilka and Washington were a decent amount better when they fought Wilder than Kownacki. Martin might be slightly better than either at their best but he also no showed for his fight with Joshua.

 

In terms of winning a world title then you would have to say on that front that he (Martin) has accomplished more than Ortiz, but it is often about opportunity and who knows how Ortiz would have done against Glazkov?
I know that I would struggle to pick a winner between Martin and Ortiz

 

Martin is solid, but also a mental case.

 

Szpilka is a football hooligan and Washington is a football player.
Martin is a legit fighter and I thought he did enough to draw with Kownacki.
