If it's half as good as the last one it will be a good fight. Hopefully he'll be on here and can tell us! The back injury has probably made it difficult to make progress though?
The thing I've noticed in at least two of Lukes recent fights- one being Cummings - was that Luke seemed a lot smaller than his opponent. Cummings looked a lot bigger than Luke in there on the night. If Luke suffers from his back injury and for example is less mobile/less strong in there then Cummings is the wrong opponent for this to happen against. (Look at what happened Pirog when his back went).
A decent enough performance by TJ, a little easy to hit with right hands at time but overall a good audition for Matchroom. Now that's see him fight in Ireland next.
Great nights boxing in the Ulster seniors (elites) the other night, Mc Naul 51k Reynolds 60k and Mc Givern 63k look to be a decent bet for the Irish elites next month the 57k final was a war and its on again this friday as the irish under 22 final down in the stadium, 69k mc keever produced a stunning ko although his opponent did look out of his depth a bit,the ulster hall looked full and the atmosphere came across great, the commentary including jamie conlan was great informative but fun aswell, TJ regained his title and looks to be lined up for a unification versus roman in the near future and Kelly Harrington won best pd for pd female amateur in Europe. Not a bad auld weekend really,
Paul McCullagh won on a KO also. Its the first time I saw him box, looked good. Tommy Hyde from Cork against McCullagh would be a good contest, I'm assuming both have entered the national championship
Reports are that Carl Frampton is considering a drop back down to Super bantam for another world title shot, not sure this will work out in his favour he did look to be struggling in the last 2 fights he had at that weight,
I was very concerned when Carl moved to 126. Featherweight hasn't worked out at all for frampton. He is too small for the modern 126 division with day before weigh ins. With a bit... OK maybe lot. . ... Of dietary discipline... and by cutting out lifting heavy weights from his training I don't see why Carl shouldn't have been able to stay at 122. He was a monster at 122. It is most unfortunate that he has ended up falling between two stools. ..Too heavy for 122, and too small for 126.
yeah thats true enough..four pounds..iv eaten heavier kebabs..but can make a very real difference in the fight game.
You know the thing is its the hardest 4. Lbs in the world. Of all the step-ups in boxing the one from 122 to 126 seems the hardest to achieve. Just think about it. So few have achieved world title status in both divisions. Even greats failed. Like Wilfredo Gomez. When you think about what people like jockeys have to do in terms of dieting (and other people too) would it not be possible for Carl to make 122 again? How long more has he got left in boxing? A couple of years max? Surely he can sacrifice for a couple of years out of his whole life?
I thought he'd been talking about moving up in weight before he finished. I get that he may be underpowered at present but can he really safely get back to SB at this stage of his career? It sounds like a very tall order.
Not as tall as continueing at featherweight or super featherweight. At least he should look into getting the best scientific advice. Felix Sturm used a diet controlled by a computer program to make 160. Lots of Latino boxers make huge weight cuts successfully. Carl should at least look into it anyway. What has he got to lose?
I guess the flippant answer is his health? You are right of course, if he does this properly and his body can adjust then great. I just worry we will see him drained on a scale in the same way that McDonnell or Quigg looked not so long ago.
