Saint George Groves officially announces his retirement, as per his Instagram.

    Initial thoughts?

    Ahh, decent career.

Biggest highlight is obviously getting knocked out by Froch in front of 80,000 at Wembley....

Wish him nothing but the best.

He made **** loads of money. Beat froch, got to fight second fight infront of 80k at Wembley stadium. And, battered Eubank j sr.

Faith was a little unkind to him but he got out at the right time.

Really good career (not great) made **** loads of money. Glad he’s not going up to 175 that would of ended real badly for him.

Also the oldest looking 30 year old in the world.

Groves had a very good career, and I think it's indeed the right time to call it a day.
Did that actually really happen? You'd think if it did, Froch would bring that up every single time, but I never heard him talk about that at all.

Yeh the first fight in which the ref stopped the fight with Groves on the ropes. Just because it was an early stoppage doesn't mean you award the other fighter the win...

Limited fighter but had a good career. I think he'll have a good life after boxing.

Always firmly believed that although it was an early stoppage, it very likely stopped Groves from receiving a crunching KO as Froch was getting well on top by then.

I had Groves 77-74 up before the ref stopped it.

He was still 4 rounds from the end... He could have got stopped any round or held on for a narrow win... Possibly.

2 of the judges had it even with the knockdown making the difference... So he may well have lost the fight on the cards as he was fading.

    Posted this on the British:

Got his world title, became Ring Magazine champ, huge stadium fight that engrossed the nation, retires with a win over the man who "haunted" him, for want of a better word, during his amateur days, humbled Eubank and finished the hype, WBSS finalist, showed his great character to keep coming from world title setbacks...great career, hope he enjoys the fruits of his labour

Think we can all be grateful for the Eubank fight

Always liked Groves's style. World class jab, he had speed and power and gave us many entertaing fights. Fell short with Froch, but no disgrace in that. Made some good money, held a world title and clowned CEJ as well as beating his domestic nemesis Degale. Smart deccision and the right time to get out. Enjoy your retirement Saint.
