He was one of my favourite fighters, but once his shoulder popped out against Junior I thought that might be the end of him.

One of the best jabs in the business and a cracking straight right hand. I think he really grew up after the Gutknecht fight...I also think that took something away from him.

Absolutely buzzed off his walk on music, especially against Eubank. Enjoy your retirement!!

Big fan of george, always his own man and did it his way. Great fighter and gave us some great nights. I hope he’s made a fortune, very well earned.

Never forget that video, so funny

I was there that night (let's not talk about the main event) and that fight rescued the card. Showed the grit that made him a champ in the end.

Very talented and skilled fighter was George.

Also a very nice fella after all the Froch nonsense.

Who are your U.K. greats or what do you have to do to become one? For the record I wouldn’t put him down as a U.K. great either but a world champion and ring magazine belt holder will certainly leave him a nice legacy.

When did Groves win the Ring magazine belt?

I don’t think he did. His fight with Smith was made for the ring belt. Smith became only third after Calzaghe and Ward to have it at Super Middle if I remember correctly.

Yeah I knew he fought for it against Smith, I didn't think he was defending it.

    People like Froch,Calzaghe,Hatton,Collins(Irish)Benn (maybe)

AJ and Fury are well on the way there too

I am glad Groves got a strap finally but as someone said earlier he peaked with a lucky punch in Froch1 ...After that it seemed a major struggle for Groves...Sometimes going bald early takes the best out of a man

Apologies, for some daft reason I thought he had it.

Regarding that ‘lucky punch’, if i’m remembering it right, didn’t Groves say in the build up that he was going to floor him with the right hand in round 1? It was a beautiful shot, not lucky.

As good a right hand as you'll see. Literally told the man all fight build up he was going to do it in the first round and bang, nailed it and cracked one of the best chins we've seen in recent years.

No he did not say that nor had Ring mag belt....You are rewriting history

He said he would meet Froch in middle of ring with a right hand...then a couple of minutes later he landed a lucky punch

Already held my hands up regarding the ring magazine belt. Regarding him saying it in the build up, I can recall it but couldn’t remember it specifically so I was asking rather than telling.
