Great fighter all around skill very great. My question is how long can he stay at the top ? I mean right now he's on the road to unifying at 135. But what happens after that ? Does he move up to 140 ? How would he do against Josh Taylor and Regis Progais ?
Probably four years until he slips out of prime. By then there will be some new talent on the scene to challenge him. He'll probably get brutalized by some big strong young guy, the way that Giovanni Segura did Ivan Calderon. Or he'll pick up injuries, slow down, cracks will appear in his game. Maybe, his chin will go and he'll get sparked out like Terry Norris, Julian Jackson, or Tommy Hearns used to. Maybe, Mikey Garcia will beat him badly when they face each other and he'll have to live in Mikey's shadow the rest of his career. Or he could hurt himself in training like Dmitri Pirog, or a car accident like Paul Williams and take an early retirement. Then again, he might choose to juice up and cherry pick for a couple of years like Floyd to milk the belts and pay per view a little. If he does that, he might not get exposed until he's nearly forty.
Depends on his shoulder ATM. I think he's too small for 140lb though he could probably go up there, pinch a belt and come back down. If he unifies @ 135 hopefully we'll then see prime Haney and Davis take up the challenge to fight him. I've always had a hunch that he may not have the longest career.
Well he's a speed and agility based fighter so you wouldn't have thought for very long, 3 years maybe? I actually think he could fight like Mayweather did in his latter years, once his speed starts to slip, but i just don't think he'd ever want to fight like that.
Who knows. That's the beauty of the sport, on an even playing field anything is possible. Now, having said that, boxing is far far far from an even playing field, which will make it all that harder for Loma to stay on top in the coming years.
My concern is how he recovers from the shoulder injury, in his last fight I felt he was far more cautious than usual - I hope that was just down to him playing safe and easing his way back in to the game carefully after surgery, and nothing more. Spectacular boxer.
This ^^^ It was downplayed but it clearly hadn't 100% recovered, in his head if nothing else. Shoulder injuries in this sport rarely just disappear as if by magic even with the best treatment in the world. If it doesn't recover fully the question is he good enough to do a 180 on the way he fights and still look spectacular. You could make the argument not yet on the basis of the last fight where he looked human on more than one occasion.
Everyone always seems to underestimate how long a great boxer will stay on top. Loma will be on top into his late 30's. He will get slower yes but he will adjust.

I don't expect great longevity from him assuming he fights the best and eventually moves to 140. His size and reach aren't very good and his power is limited.
