He beat a washed up ,old drunk fart to win the belt .The only reason he's in the record books is because he's the first guy to win the belt with gloves. Very over rated is Mr Corbett .

I don't have him top 20, but I think his best wins are Choynski, Sullivan and McCoy, which is pretty respectable.

Ive never met someone with Corbett in their top 20, I don't think he breaks my top 50 honestly

What IS appalling these days is that Sullivan and Jeffries don't break many top 20s (greatness)

Choynski was a novice, Sullivan was finished, that leaves light heavyweight McCoy and that fight has an*alongside it.

    He wouldn't make today's top-20… let alone all-time!

Choynski was a champion amateur and had already had multiple finish fights. Plenty of other fighter's key wins came when their opponent was diminished or shot, it lessens the win, but it's still relevant. The claims the McCoy fight were fixed are really unconvincing IMO.

Corbett has gradually fallen in my estimation, since I started researching the era, while Sullivan, Jackson, Fitzsimmons, and Jeffries have all gained ground over the same period.

I do think that Corbett probably stacks up better head to head, than he does in terms of resume.

Given that Corbett's resume is 11-4-3 it would be hard for it to be worse!

Okay, give us 5 fighters of any note that Choynski beat before he tackled Corbett.

    You should be.

While his standing relative to the other lineal champions has rightly declined, he might be one of the more remarkable men, ever to win the heavyweight title!

Which doesn't qualify him in any way to be in the top 20!
