All the talent and skill in the world, but youre rigit, he's mentally weak and THAT is what separates him from Ward -- he difference between being an ATG and a total bust and waste of potential. Ive said it before, to be THE champ, you have to act like it and know you are. Falling apart because he lost a close decision to the slightly better fighter ruined him. Stopped listening to his trainers, getting legless blackout hammered in camp and slapping around broads......... What a bitchmade clown bust. Ward iwas a JUNKYARD DAWG, Kovalev was a wannabe and a could have been. The intangibles of fighters are so underrated and nothing highlights that more so than the difference between Kovalev and Ward.

 

I hate to make blanket statements about groups of people, but most of the the elite fighters from the west -- the US, UK, central and South America, and some fighters from Africa -- the difference between them and a lot of the best fighters from former Soviet Blocc fighters is the inherrent mental strength, resilience, and toughness that they have and bring to the table probably in part because of the difference in cultures.

Obviously there are exceptions like GGG, Usyk, Loma, Vitali Klitschko, and possibly Beterbiev. IMO though, for the most part and in general boxers from the west and where else I said, ELITE level or not, those fighters just seem to have a noticeable and significant difference in mentality and huge edge in mental strength, toughness, balls, resilience, and killer instinct. Our cultures I think are just different and are more ruthless which cultivates and breeds those intangibles into those fighters much more. For the most part, guys from the west and some African fighters -- IMO -- are noticeably more hard and have way more fight in them compared to their eastern European counterparts who in general seem way more soft to me. And its not just noticeable in boxing, it's been noticeable and highlighted in NBA players as well, for years. NBA players that come from Europe have been labeled "soft" for years compared North American and Latin American players. I don't believe in coincidence, there is clearly substance to what I'm saying.

 

I don't know. Kovalev doesn't take a good punch. Alvarez will be aiming for the chin again with the right and waiting those few rounds for Kovalev to get tired. All Alvarez has to do is wait and land the punch and he wins the rematch.

People can say whatever they want about fighters and voice their opinions, but at the end of the day he was a longtime champ in 2 divisions and retired undefeated. Winners know that if you want it, you gotta TAKE it, so real winners gain every competitive advantage they can get away with, stack the deck in their favor, and go out and do what they need to to win. Ward is the epitome of a winner. You can voice your opinion all you want, but nothing you say can take anything away from Ward and what he accomplished.
