Kovalev should just stick to boxing smart instead of using power and aggression

Kovalev has always had the boxing ability on the outside with his jab and length, making him hard to outbox. Ward had to wrestle his way to beat Kovalev but he never truly ‘outboxed’ him. I think if Kovalev were to stick around longer and fight the top dogs at his age he should just stick to boxing intelligently and abandon his power and aggressive style that we’ve all been used to seeing. Based on his performance against Alvarez he has the boxing skills to keep up with anyone, just as long as he doesn’t get careless and tires.

He has no other choice. When you are young and have that power and energy . You can do that. Now he's 35 and getting older reflexes are slowing down. He has to box his way out from here on out

It doesn't have to be an either/or proposition. It should vary from fight to fight depending on what his opponents' proclivities are.

I'd like to see him move up to cruiser. Sacrifice some speed for extra tnt.

this would be true if he continues fighting hand picked people. he cant go into a fight with a boxer puncher and like gvosdyk and avoid using his power an expect to win

He's more than capable of outboxing everyone at LHW, with the exception of Gvozdyk.

The downside is that it leaves him open to getting robbed by a domestic fighter. Patriotic corruption is rife in boxing.
