Did Kovalev lose something in his last two matches. I know he was heaps better in the rematch but has he declined overall?

His stamina, sticking to the game plan and not getting emotional were vastly improved. Big credit to Buddy.
This version of Kovalev the boxer is much better than the bully and emotionally volatile Kov from before IMO.

I have to say if I was someone in the top 5 at LHW I wouldn't be afraid of Kovalev anymore

Absolutely. He boxed beautifully. Let the punches go and his stamina and power removed any ideas Alvarez might have had to "go for it".

Kovalev's jab was much better and he paced himself, I think round 4 of the last fight he half punched himself out going for the KO.

Apparently he had breakfast before the weigh-in so I guess he's doing the weight properly now which reportedly wasn't the case before.

I think it probably helps that McGirt is more clear-spoken than Jackson who is poorly spoken and mumbly.

Easy to say until the Kovalev right hand connects. The durable Alvarez dealt with it well putting his ear-muffs up, but not every fighter will.

So what are you saying? That you're more of a man than Eleider Alvarez? Because he was terrified by this version.

Hell yea, this Kov is better. He is more controlled, tactical, and methodical. He was ill prepared before with poor corner support.

Physical qualities decline with age, speed, athleticism & punch resistance.. Some fighters cam adjust to it to some extent, & some just cant. Having a high ring IQ & a good trainer obviously helps too.. Longevity in boxing tends to be fighters who can make the changes with age, Kova showed me he can. I dont think hes the fighter of 5 years ago (in terms of overall threat, same with GGG) but hes still capable enough (with the right team around him) to be elite.
