Alvarez had not Plan B, and if he did was too hesitant to invoke it. Kovalev has natural power, and Alvarez could not get past that, and when Kovalev did not tire, it was essentially over for Alvarez.

No, Duran is out of Panama and Mayorga Nicaragua. I said South and Central America. Reread the post.

I think we have to look at the trainer here.
same as lemmie, when faced with a good boxing technique ,stick & move the guys from this camp are pretty much out boxed & outclassed. Even Stevenson was a bit reliant on power to end it all , just like lemmie , just like Alvarez...the trainer is one dimensional ... so are his fighters while they are with him, TBH, out of the 3 mentioned I think Alvarez has more talent if he changed trainers whereas lemmie & Stevenson are what they are power punchers, walk into one ,whoever you are & its goodnight baby.

I agree with this ,but I think Alvarez has power & power from very short punches, the man has good power & a chin. He needs a new trainer ,this guy is a wasted talent if he stays where he is...Virgil Hunter.

Difference in this fight was Kovalev listened! He was more focused, not so reliant on power but stuck to his fundamentals.. Used the ring better, worked behind his jab & stuck to a gameplan. McGirt seems to have done a bit of a Manny Steward Vladimir job on him.. Make him less gun ho, less exciting but more effective! Take less chances.. He was simply switched on this time. Kovalev has shown he can adapt & overcome adversity now, great fighter's do this.

Kovalev had a game plan, which didn't require KOing the other guy. He stuck to it very well and was able to retain stamina and take a few decent right hands without getting hurt. Alvarez had no plan B, that was his biggest problem. If Alvarez had a plan B, Krusher nullified by skilled boxing and adjustments. Kovalev is on the backside of his career, but by boxing he can retain longevity and beat some decent fighters.

Do you think Kov also gassed in the second Ward bout?

Hopkins was finished by the time Kov beat him.

I didn't know schooling 3 prime and quite skilled fighters consecutively qualified as finished by today's standards. Quite frankly a young fighter going into a match with back to back to back wins over Shumenov, Cloud and Murat would be considered a live dog and a threat, those 3 wins were better than anything many Stevenson opponents had going for them before facing him. Hopkins was anything but finished, that is until the Krusher got done with him.

What other light heavies would Hopkins have beaten that year and when would he begin to slip, you can age overnight in boxing as Manny may find out if he gets in the ring with Spence.

So, what are you saying, if you can't beat the top dog in the division you're finished? That's illogical reasoning.
