I don't think it was Ward who necessarily took his soul... I think 'the system' screwed him in the first Ward fight & it sent him off the rails. Then his trainer seemed to turn on him (though i don't know the full details on that) & he lost his way.. This guy moved to america & came up the hard way in boxing, fighting pretty much for free! It's harder for EEs to break through or get a fair shake in the US compared to the US/western fighters... I think its been more of a case of all the pieces falling into place for Kovalev have been few & far between (some his own doing, some not) & guys like the golden child Ward have always had it easier with a stable team, backing & hometown advantage etc Kovalev has shown an ability to adapt & overcome adversity now, the mark of a great fighter, Ward didn't mentally ruin him. I had Ward clearly losing that first fight. Second i have no problem with. If Ward was using prison rules SK should have returned in kind.. There is no shame losing to Ward though, he's clearly a future HOFer.. Toney & Bhop lost to RJJ, it doesn't mean they weren't great fighters in there own right. They shouldn't be inextricably linked, Kovalev has made his own legacy... Appreciate him, hes a great fighter coming to the end of a great career.
