Who would win between Willie pep or Julio cesar Chavez at super-featherweight?

Pep would have a big size disadvantage. Though it's also worth considering the Sadler fights were after Pep's prime.

Hard to pick against Pep.

 

At 126? Sadler maybe, Chavez hit hard but he had to put'em together , he'd not find Willie Pep that often

To be fair, I worded that oddly.

 

I'd edge towards Pep, largely because Chavez wasn't at his best at 130. Up at 135 and 140, he was a machine, but I think he was tight at the weight at Super-Feather (his ribs were showing in a couple of his title fights there) and as a result he was a little easier to push back (not that Pep will be doing that, mind you) and didn't hit with the same authority, either.

I do, however, think that Pep gets off a little easily in some quarters for his losses to Saddler, and I'm mindful that even if he's slightly below his best, Chavez still has the style and game to pull off a similar kind of victory as Sandy did. But as I said, for now I'll stick with Pep, just. Will 'o the Wisp survives a few hairy moments to take the decision.

Chavez was a great fighter. Pep was a featherweight and not a super-featherweight, so the whole premise of this thread is not a fair question. I have a thing against presenting imaginary threads which do not conform to the facts on the ground. Sorry, Mark Ant, I respect most of your posts, but every once and a while you come up with scenarios that do not respect the reality of boxing history. I think we have enough to talk about without going beyond the boundaries of reality. The question of who was a better fighter, Chavez or Pep, is close enough that we should be fair to each fighter when we set the parameters. Weight for Pep made a difference!

 

Prime Pep actually fought up at 130 lbs numerous times in non-title fights.
