Ernie Terrell vs Floyd Patterson (Sept. 1966)

From 3/'65 to 6/'66, Terrell had beaten Machen, Chuvalo, and Doug Jones.
Instead of fighting Ali next (2/'67), Ernie fights Patterson in September 1966.

    Who wins?

Terrell wasn’t particularly good in my opinion and didn’t show much power given his size but he was big. Floyd fights smart and uses his movement and superior speed to win a UD, maybe even a late KO.

Terrell was the best of the bunch. Clearly.

He beats Patterson, probably by decision, maybe by stoppage.

I think Floyd takes this ,more likely by decision than ko ,,but he d find him awkward to deal with at times .Floyd gets it throu aggression and faster hands .

I think Terrell would jab and grab his way to a UD.

I second this scenario. Despite Terrell's octopi-like clinching, Patterson's workrate takes this via decision.

Well Floyd, at that point, had beaten Machen and Chuvalo as well and would have laid Jones into a puddle at that point.
That being said (and I don't hate Ernie) the big 'octopus' slob may have laid all over him and, depending on the judges, copped a UD.
Floyd was signed to fight Chuvalo in Feb 65 before Ernie's 'title' scrap with Eddie in March.
Look at the three 'title' fights Terrell had. All three were 'pan-fed' to his style.
Given fairness, Patterson would have outworked Terrell and copped an easy UD; if the Floyd we all know showed up.

Liston's comment why he, The Big Bear, wouldn't fight his own sparring partner Ernie Terrell: "Terrell hugs me more than even my mother does".
