Is this the most boring 12-round match-up that can be made between ATG's in the same weight range? I'd say if not it would have to be up there. :sisi1

Let's make this @ light heavyweight. So, average out Ward's form in the Kovalev I & II, Brand, Smith and Barrera run versus any championship-reign version of Hill.

Ward UD. And no disrespect to Hill, he earned his status and did it for a LONG time.

Just a case of having way more tools in his toolbox, yeah?

(not to mention a passing fair jab of his own. :sisi1 Perhaps it was never quite Hills' equal, but among the best since I'd say..)

Agreed, and I think the slightly better athlete. One thing they both proved over their careers was that they were winners. But imo Ward is in a league of his own in that department. He always figured out a way to win, always, since he was 13 years old. I'm pretty sure his last loss was as a Jr amateur or novice class. Pretty sure he went undefeated his entire open class amateur career and all the way through his pro career and beat some very good opponents.

I'm as big a Ward fan as one can get and he definitely earned ATG status IMO, but I think a few of the up and coming LHW from former Soviet Bloc countries was one of the factors in his decision to retire relatively early. I'm glad he did though and even happier for him since he seemingly is happy and content in retirement unlike other fighters who feel empty in retirement.

Great idea though for a hypothetical.

I think Virgil jab was what would give him a decision in a very very boring fight.

Hill was in a few stinkers.

At times, though, he showed surprising flashes of power.

The odds are he'd use his legs to win a 12 rd. decision.

Ward wins by stoppage. The right and left hook at the body sending Hill to the floor like Roy Jones did to him.

Kind of surprised to see Hill leading here and Ward leading in the general. I would have suspected the reverse. Interesting.

Something like this but Hill would make it competitive and survive

Ward is no where near what Jones was. And Virgil was older than. This was 11 years after
    he won the title?

I guess it all depends on what the referee would let Ward get away with. If he can do what he usually gets away with, I can see him eek out a decision. If he doesn't, Hill probably outpoints him.

In a fair world, Quicksilver by close decision.
