NEW YORK (February 8, 2019)-TONIGHT, Heralded amateur, heavyweight Sonny Conto will make his long-waited pro debut at 2300 Arena in his hometown of Philadelphia. Conto, 22 years-old will take on Jimmie Levins in a four-round bout. "I feel like a champ. All of the hard work is done. This is the moment that I have been waiting for. I am anxious. I am excited, said Conto. "I have been thinking about this moment since I started boxing. This is just the beginning. Philly has a strong root of fighters. I am proud to represent Philadelphia, South Philadelphia. I am from right on 9th Street, where they did the Rocky Movie." "I do not feel any pressure fighting at home. I rise to the occasion with pressure." "Dave McWater is the best manager in the world. Top Rank is the best promoter in the world. I feel like I will do big things with each of them." Conto was a two-time Pennsylvania Golden Gloves Champion as well as a Silver Medalist in the 2018 National Golden Gloves and a Bronze Medalist in the 2017 National Golden Gloves. Conto weighed in at 215.4 lbs, while Levins was 219.2 at Thursday's weigh-in. Below is the fight week media day interview and media work out videos.
Have a thread on this the other day , top level skills. He can punch so weight not issue for now. He's my top prospect ,should cut through everyone pretty quickly but he's 22 so no rush . It's going to be a crazy clash in the second wave after this one ...Sirenko , Ajagba , Hrgovic , DDD , Gorman , now Conto. Though I don't consider Sirenko a prospect.or Hrgovic . fight went as I thought it would , looks like a young Klitschko.
Anyone hear how Christian Carto is doing after getting badly KO'd last night? I hope he's doing well. Sonny is a very gifted fighter. Excellent skills for a guy who started so late.
Seems to have some promise. Very accurate puncher - all the footage I've seen of Sonny features him splitting his opponent's guard with ease. Fast hands, too.
You follow the North East boxing scene pretty closely? I agree with you on all counts about Sonny, and @GALVATRON is right he has dynamic hands and I love his hook. Have you gotten the chance to see any fights of Jamaine Ortiz at all, kid from Worcester, MA who is very talented?
I'm riding and dying with Sonny as far as backing any HW out there. He's talented, has a lot going against him, but I'm all in!
If thats true thankfully he changed that name...lol but yea I see why that's why I said he looks like young Wlad, interesting. I have somethings in common with him ,same state ,my fathers name is Sonny, his gym is almost my last name,he looks A lot like I did at 22 and we have the same style. Theres was something else but??? I found out a lot about him after his first fight at pro not that nick name though...lol
Cool background info. I actually hadnt heard of him till your post, and came across an article saying it doing some research on him https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ph...Rowan_University_baseball.html?outputType=amp Definitely one to keep an eye on!
