I agree with that, Bowe was a more complete fighter than Lewis and did everything well, whereas Lewis had to keep a fight at range as his inside game wasn't the best.. i think he'd have stopped Lewis somewhere during the middle rounds, shame he didn't think so....
Bowe's only chance against Lennox was right where het ducked him. Bowe was on a high beating Evander if he'd stayed in shape & honored the deal & fought Lennox he had a chance Id had a few beers when I met Bowe & Newman in Dallas at a black tie affair. Newman boasted" Who wants tp meet the World Heavyweight Champ"?" Before I knew iut Id blurted out " Wow is Lennox here too then"lol Bowe isn't champ till he;s beaten Lennox Bowe heard he just walked away. Newman said" Why risk it all against Lewis when when folk will but Dokes & Ferguson with minimal risk" I said ": Don't call Bowe champ then " Newman held up the belts & said :: Weve got these though" He knew Bowe could not beat :Lennox "
He was more the champ than Lewis at the time, though. When you blurted out "Is Lennox here, too." you were implying Lennox was the real Champ. But, he wasn't. Bowe beat Holyfield who was the linear champ. Lewis beat Ruddock for the vacant title Bowe threw away. Now, if Lewis beat Bowe, yes he would have been the real Champ. But, Bowe didn't have to beat Lewis to be considered the real Champ. By beating Holyfield, he had already established that he was the legitimate Champion.
Like most I'd say Lewis, and any uncertainty is diminished by the fact that Bowie himself evidently agreed. (I remember seeing a public trash talk exchange that was very telling. If you can read people it's pretty clear Bowe was cowed.)
Found it. It seems pretty damn clear to me that Lewis is the only one who's confident he can back up what he's saying. This content is protected
7ou are wrong. A four man tourney was agreed on between Lennox Bowe Ruddock and Holyfield Lewis- Ruddock & Bowe-Holy the3 two winners to fight next to decide the real champ, Ruddock was favorite to win, BYT when Gowe saw what Lennox did to Ruddock he renaged on the deal. They knew they couldn't beat Lennox hence the cowardly WBC belt in the garbage. Bowe was NOT the LEGITIMATE CHAMPOIPON as he had not completed the contract
Bowe's best chance Is right after Holyfield. Problem is if you don't believe in yourself its impossible to achieve it. Riddick Bowe didn't believe he could beat Lennox Lewis.
Bowe would have stopped him had they fought once they were supposed to fight....the later Lewis is another fight coupled with Bowes lack of health discipline Bowe would not as we saw been able to maintain that level by the time Lewis came into his own....there peaks passed each other far too much is made of the amateur fight...the angle most fans saw was a promotional angle and hyped......the style of the amateurs was where Lewis was at an advantage the pro game and the amateur game are no comparison when it comes to a man to man matchup...I will explain The amateur game is very restricting in rules and styles, infighting is rare due to restrictions on ducking and weaving punches and brawling is a negative...it is all about clean punching and control of distance...Lewis was a amateur in the style of a Teofilo Stevenson with beautiful straight punches a big right and clean amateur style As a pro Bowe was able to fight a style far more suited to him and lacked the restrictions that hurt him as an amateur he could weave, infight and brawl if needed as a seasoned Pro Lewis still had a suitable style for an amateur...the difference as you broaden the rules and lessen the restrictions Bowe had more aspects as an all around fighter
91-93 Bowe stops him 94 (Bowe of Holy II-Mathis vs Lewis of McCall I) pick em 95+ Lewis stops him Prime for prime...I always leaned towards Bowe and still do
You really believe that? To me it looked like Bowe was pissed that Lennox reneged on their deal, so Bowe was telling him that he took the easy way out and conspire with Don King. Bowe looked confident to me here. In my opinion, the best Bowe beats the best Lennox.
Lewis had the much better career by a country mile. No contest. But I believe the version of Bowe who fought Holyfield the first time would beat any version of Lewis.
Oh, I definitely believe that. It seems very clear to me that Bowe is engaging in hollow bluster and Lewis is calm as can be. Of course that's not to say that just because Lewis was the more self-assured he was also the better fighter, but I don't think it's irrelevant either.
I lean toward Lewis but I could possibly be dissuaded. What, in brief outline, is your case for Bowe? I'll say the one thing I'm most confident about is that this is an unusually time-sensitive fight.
