all this talk of Whyte today got me thinking about his next fight. Will Eddie be able to get Eddie brezeale to risk his spot and come over to the UK? I’m not sure. Povetkin? But seeing a lot of talk of Uysk - Pov next , where has this come from? Thoughts?
Honestly this is the fight I'm hoping for the most. Ortiz and Parker are without a doubt better fighters but Breazale vs Whyte would be a barnburner as long as it lasts. Hearn can probably offer Breazale more than he would make in a Wilder fight (which he will be waiting on for awhile) and it would get Whyte ranked #1 with the WBC (if he wants to go down that long road.)
I can pretty much guarantee the Breazeale fight won't happen. Haymon will have his man well paid in order to avoid that fight. Why? To stop Whyte from getting past Deonkey's final bodyguard. And when Whyte brings this issue up, Deonkey can put all the blame on Whyte for 'ducking' Breazeale. Povetkin is very risky for Whyte and it's almost certainly a risk too far. Those hooks will have Whyte in trouble within 3 rounds, and finished within 6. Povetkin is not done, he just came up against a massively improved AJ. I'm sure he'd put Whyte, Wilder, Parker to sleep. And he'd be a pain for even Fury to keep at bay (It's the one matchup in the division I don't like the look of for Fury) Ortiz should be the choice. He's declined a lot worse than Povetkin, and he doesn't hit as hard or fast. Ortiz is very straight-forward. Povetkin isn't, he comes at you from all sorts of awkward angles. The Ortiz fight is a great fight for Whyte and he should persue that.
Well how must breazeale be thinking? Does he want the WBC belt for legacy? Does he genuinely believe he can hold on to it? Does he get it in time before AJ to secure a huge money fight? Can eddie offer him more money than Breazeale would make off Wilder? I reckon in UK Breazeale makes much much more than he would against Wilder... and i think deep down he backs himself against Whyte to win and retain mandatory. At the same time I think he believes he can beat Wilder too... but he wont make any money off of it...even if he does win and a rematch happens... compared to what he can make in UK with Whyte. I think Breazeale can be enticed with a 5 mill flat fee.
Problem with Ortiz is that he’s already officially in a fight unless Eddie can pull some strings to get him out of it?
No he shouldn't pursue Ortiz fight...as it is useless... maybe a warm up fight after this next one. Either Pov or Breazeale... but Pov will be hard. And I think the saying goes never hook with a hooker... who is the hooker?
Good thread. The h/w division is great fun right now. If I'm Fast Eddie, I match what he has at his disposal like this: Top tier match-ups: Dillian Whyte v Dominic Breazeale - The winner gets the winner of Fury v Wilder if the second winner won't fight AJ next. Good payday for both guys & a winnable fight for each. Olek Usyk v Alex Povetkin - The winner is the h/w champ of Eastern Europe. Both guys are too dangerous as opponents for others. Very credible as opponents for each other. Second tier match-ups: Joseph Parker v Dereck Chisora - Fast Eddie is also going to need some decent undercard match-ups to make these shows PPV-worthy. Parker & Chisora are proven performers in that regard. Michael Hunter v Carlos Takam - The winner puts themselves in the frame for a top tier fight. Third tier match-ups: Dave Allen v Lucas Browne David Price v TBA There's two decent h/w PPV shows right there. Put one fight from each tier on each show & pay them accordingly. You could sub in someone for Breazer if Al Haymon doesn't want to let him play. I think the other matches are within Fast Eddie's capability to deliver.
If he wins that, he's in line for this. I'm sure Fast Eddie can come up with another decent third tier option if Price is indisposed.
The same can be said about Joshua who had his stance fully stretched to avoid such a situation. Povetkin still landed on him.
Lol the same way he reached the taller David Price. Without a ladder. Infact all Pov does is spar with 6 ft 9 guys. He is an expert.
smh povetkin is done... fury beats him with ease... wilder ko's him within 8 and whyte/parker beat him 8-4.
Who cares about Dillian Whyte? Nobody. He is a KO waiting to happen and if he starts to fight some real punching guys it will happen soon.
I'm not sure about that. This is heavyweight division, and you are talking about top contenders. Anyone could beat anybody here. Except AJ. No one can get close to him.
